Hey there,

I own both 60GB PS3 and LG 42" 1080p LCD (42LB5D) and I use an HDMI connector. I have never had any issues with my setup before this - Last night, I bought Call of Duty 4 for my PS3 and I got a chance to play this afternoon but for some reason, it isn't displaying 1080p. It didn't look terrible (I am spoiled by playing the demo on the PC with jacked settings, though :)) but a little grainy and somewhat "pixelated" almost like streaming internet videos. I have searched some of the PSN forums for a while and tried what apparently was a fix for some; using the "Custom" display setting and unchecking all but 1080p. One obstacle is that 480p is grayed out under this menu and I cannot uncheck it. When I leave only it (480p) and 1080p selected, however, the game displays in the 480p. I just went back to playing with the "Automatic" display settings because that looks better. Would the use of superwhite or the RGB feature be at the root of this issue? I currently have superwhite disabled and RGB limited. If anyone can offer me some guidance that would be most appreciated.

One last thing - Anyone have any good places or ideas for getting better quality out of my TV through fine-tuning settings/calibration? I set everything up myself without the help of pros and everything looks fine on the defaults generally but if I can squeeze some extra juice, why not? :D

Deff want RGB on full.

In order to get 960x1080p aka 1080p for this game you will have to disable the 720p option in the XMB.

Ill say just leav it and let the TV do the scaling.... 1280x720p.

I did try to disable the other formats but I couldn't uncheck 480p so I had to leave it and instead of upconverting the game to 1080p like it should, it lowered to the 480 res. Okay, RGB needs to be on full? I will try it, though I just saw someone say that only if you are using the TV as a PC monitor should that feature be set to full; have you heard this before? Regarding the other things, as I said earlier, I have them left on the "Automatic" display setting and still it looks like a lowered resolution...

COD4 is a 720p game. Personally given the alleged possibility that COD4 makes the PS3 run warmer then normal I would leave it at 720p so the PS3 does not have to perform yet another function that can contribute to making the PS3 work harder by upscaling. I too think that it runs warmer since I got through the game in two nights playing 6 hours straight each night and I did feel it ran hotter then normal. At the end I did have a couple of brief studders in the game (lasting less then a second).
