So I have the HD70 and a 16:9 screen (Panoview). When I project the video (widescreen DVD) it fits the screen when I select mode 4:3 or native.

When I select mode 16:9 the image is stretched and completely out of proportions and overlaps the screen on the left and the right.

I use s-video and a Philips HTS6500 upconvert DVD-player.

What am I doing wrong here?? Why is the widescreen picture best viewed at 4:3 and not 16:9??

Did you go into the DVD player setup and choose 16x9 display type?

Why the hell are you using s video when you can only upconvert over hdmi. go to www.monoprice.com and geta an hdmi cable.

Here is what is going on. S video is only 480i so on native and 4:3 mode you are only using 848 by 480 pixels so the picure is smaller. When you switch to 16:9 you are using all 1280 by 720 pixels so the image is bigger.

Basically on native mode and 4:3 mode with svideo you are only using a fraction of the resolution of the projector.

if you want to use all the 1280 by 720 pixels you need to use 16:9 mode and use less zoom or move the projector closer to the screen.

I can`t choose display-type on my DVD-Player
Page 23 of your user manual:

SETUP > VIDEO SETUP > TV DISPLAY

And go get a component or HDMI cable.
