I have seen several BOGO for Blu-ray now, and as a new A2 owner I am itching for a BOGO on HD DVD. Has there ever been one before, and does anyone think one may be coming soon?

The only legitimate one I know of occured in late August at Amazon.com. (Actually it was a B2G3, but with their prices, it was just as good.) It was supposed to last for three weeks, but got shut down after only a few days. I made out like a bandit: got 15 discs, my first player, and went red.

Not that I know of.
Closest they came was buy the Matrix trilogy and a player and get 2 free movies. BB had a buy 3 get $20 off sale once or twice, but that just brings down the BB price to near Amazon levels. Almost forgot, they had a sale last week on mostly Warner titles and one a few months before where the price of the movies was below $15

They are doing a bogo again on amazon, um, sounds like a Shrek defense. Although I don't see shrek 3 as a real contender.

Frys.com have had HD DVD BOGO sales within the last month and half.. Amazon recently had a Buy2 Get 1 free..

Blu-Ray's BOGO sale can be attributed to Sony and the rest of BDA wanting to combat the big HD DVD release of Shrek.

Much like Transformers week, they don't want to lose a week of sales so they are willing to give away movies to maintain an angle to spin Blu-Ray press releases...

The week transformers came out, they had Buy1 Get1 sale and then spun it into an article "We sold more movies than a HOT new release and we didn't even have any significant release"... Anyone in the know, knew they gave away movies that were rang in as sales but most of the media, unfamiliar to what's going on, wouldn't know the difference.

HD DVD seems to be more concerned about players and that's the key.. selling players will lead to movie sales in the long-term, where the B1G1 is a short-term victory for Blu..

There was when Circuit City messed up a few weeks ago. I got the deal, that's all I care about. Bought 6, got 6 :)

As mentioned, Fry's had a 2 for $27 deal on Universal movies while Br was running their '"anti-Transformers BOGO".

I am hoping that Fry's can continue to push pricing like that in the future..though they often have pretty good pricing.

Sorry to say that all the recent promotions and BOGO BD sales have swayed me closer to the other party.

It is painfully stupid to browse the HD sections of Amazon and see stuff like Bourne Ultimatum for $27.

The BOGO Sales are nice... To take advantage though, you need a more expensive player... And you can't expect Blu to offer these sales all the time. They are simply trying to combat the biggest HD DVD releases of the year to keep HD DVD from winning a sales week. HD DVD winning a sales week would add more fuel to the increasing build of momentum that HD DVD has going for it.

In the defense of HD DVD, they have lowered prices of a lot of movies to $15 at wal-mart and they have had BOGO's of their own and likely will have another in the future. There are a ton of movies on amazon from $18-$20 which is the price I paid for a lot of my DVDs

It is painfully stupid to browse the HD sections of Amazon and see stuff like Bourne Ultimatum for $27.

Why would that bother you when Spiderman 3 is listed at Amazon for $29.95, lacks the DVD side and the extras/interactive content that Bourne will have?

How about the fact that Universal Catalog releases average $19.95 while Sony catalogs average $22.95 on Amazon?

Or are you bothered by the fact that it is almost impossible to get a Fox BD at a B&M for less than $35 when you can get Paramount HD DVD releases for less than $30 at those same locations? Keep in mind those Fox BDs are bare-bones with few extras if any while the Paramount releases are loaded with extras and are often 2 disk sets.

BOGOs are the ONLY thing that keeps BD affordable; Sony, Fox and MGM all have ridiculous prices on their BDs (MSRP $39-$44, street $25-$35). The things that drive up HD DVD price averages are D&D Combos and 2-Disk sets (MSRP $35-$40, street $25-$32) and at least with those you can point to value added features. Prices need to come down for both formats, but at least with the HD DVD you are getting an SD side so you can loan out the film or you are getting a bunch of SD extras and a few HD extras. I'm hard pressed to think of one Fox BD, save perhaps AVP (seamless branching galore) that merits their $35+ price tags.

Back on Topic: Fry's is the only B&M retailer that has anything close to HD DVD BOGOs. In truth they are normally 50% off sales and they happen about every other month or about 1/4 as often as BD BOGOs.

But BOGO sales would also help to push the sales of players. We all know that it is a small amount to spend on the player, yet a huge cost to maintain it (i.e. buying the software for it).

I thought these kind of threads were a no-no now.

But yeah I would like a Uni sale. There are some movies I would never buy on BD if it weren't for the awesome format war prices.

I really want a Paramount BOGO.
