I posted this in a different forum but got no responses. Hopefully someone here knows wthat my my issue is and can help me resolve it.
I just got a PS3 that I hooked up to my Mitsubishi HD1000 projector using HDMI. I am having a problem with some type of interference on my cable box (when watching TV) that seems to be coming from the PS3.
My comcast HD box (older model, not the new ones) is currently hooked up to my PJ via component since the firmware doesn't support HDMI switches. Ever since I hooked up the PS3 thorugh HDMI (the only way I ever tried it), anytime I watch TV, I get these reddish lines that run up the screen. I can make them go away by either unplugging the power on the PS3 or unplugging the HDMI cable. So it appears that something from the PS3 is causing interference with my cable box signal even though it is running component cables and not HDMI.
Prior to getting the PS3, I was using an Oppo 970D DVD player hooked up using the same HDMI cable with no problems. My issue is obviuosly the PS3 but I don't know what is causing it or how to fix it. Maybe it is the bluetooth but I would assume the problem would go away when the system is powered down. It doesn't.
I appreciate any ideas on how to fix my problem so I am not forced to keep unplugging everything

Does the line roll? If so it could be a grounding issue. This is my first thought as to what the problem could be.
Are the video sources and projector on the same electrical circuit? Have you cut the grounding prong off you PS3 or Cable Box?
How old is you HDMI cable? Is your projector running at 1080p? I have seen older/and new HDMI cables that are unable to carry 1080p yet have no problems with 1080i. If the HDMI cable wasn't sweep tested for 1080p, this too could be your issue? Have you tried a new cable?
Just a few questions and thoughts for you to go over......

Yes, the line does roll. Both the PS3 and Cable box are connected to the same surge protector. The PJ is plugged into a different outlet. My PJ is only 720P and I am using a 5 month old HDMI cable purchased from Monoprice. It is a 35' cable as it needs to run back to the PJ.
The PS3 screen is fine when I am playing it. The lines only appear when I switch from my HDMI input (PS3) to my cable box which is on my component input. I find it funny that two devices running on different connections can interfere with each other but that is clearly the case here since I know the problem goes away when I either disconnect the PS3 power source or the HDMI cable.
I was using the same HDMI cable on my Oppo DVD player with no interference so I am thinking it is not the cable (I could be wrong).
Where are the grounding prongs on the PS3 and Cable box? I never heard of doing this so I am a bit confused.
I tried running the HDMI cable through an HDMI switch I have rather than directly to the PJ but the problem is still there. Maybe I will also try hooking the cable box up via HDMI to see if that helps. MY only problem with that is the crappy box doesn't support switches so when I move over to the other device, the box starts to go into reset mode and continues to loop. Got to get one of the newer boxes soon!
Thanks for your help!

OK, I now know what you meant by the grounding prong. I feel rather stupid now but I'm fine with that.
I was able to find some other forums where people have had this same issue especially when you have more than one video component hooked up that uses the 3 prong plugs. The suggestions ranged from breaking off the grounding prong to hooking it up to a 3 to 2 adaptor or extenstion cord. For now, I will take the less drastic approach and try the adaptor. I would rather spen 99 cents and have it fail than destroy my power cord and have that fail.
Hopefully this will work!

Good luck. I hope this works for you. I've seen it before and your symptoms are what I have seen. Your right, the adapter is the best thing to try and keep if it works.

best 99 cents I've spent! The 3 to 2 adpator works fine! thanks for helping me understand that it was simply a grounding issue!

Do you think using a 3 to 2 adaptor on the PS3 is a good idea? I have this exact same issue with my HD cable box signal having rolling lines when my PS3 is connected.

I am having the same problem I am using a Dell 5100mp but this happens with my DVD player or satellite receiver when I use a HDMI cable. I get the red lines which run horizontal. The projector is connected alone as far as power goes. The red lines seem to appear mostly in the black areas. Can someone give me some input?
