I just finished adding a bunch of HD-DVD titles to my wishlist on deepdiscount. Well about 80% of them were out of stock. Do you think this is due to the big Wal-Mart sale and the influx of HD units in people's homes? I can only view this as a good thing for the HD camp. Or do you think they just stocked less HD titles compared to Blu-Ray. I checked on a few titles in the Blu Ray section and they were all in stock.

Anyways, just thought it was interesting. They better start stocking up on HD-DVD's! :)

Yeah, I'm going with the cough-due-to-discount guy. Everything in my wishlist except scrubs season 6 are out of stock.

It seems every time they run this sale (twice a year, btw), the box sets are usually the ones that are out of stock - probably due to limited stock to begin with. I'm assuming the same thing can be said for the HD DVD selection. DD doesn't sell all that many HD DVDs to begin with, so take an additional 20% off a low inventory title that normally doesn't move but a few a month can take the stock levels to 0 in a hurry.

The pricing they have even after the discount has paled in comparison of the recent sales of both HD DVD and BRD @ Fry's, CC, BB and WM. It's hard to get excited about a title for 15.46$ when it was 12.50$, 13.50$ or even 14.86$ not too long ago. Their price guarantee has gotten sloppy with HD media, too. They usually try to beat Amazon + regular shipping (taking the super saver free shipping and Prime out of the equation). However, Amazon has beaten them for HD media several times lately. 17.10$ for some of the newer Kubrik items isn't all that bad considering how limited the availability was when they were released and the various sales were going on (making them impossible to get at those prices for some of us).

Lots of box sets on the SD side of the fence still is incredible. :-)

FWIW, the 20% off still applies to out of stock items but NOT pre-orders. For out of stock items they deduct the 20% for you first and then ship to you when they get stock.

This happens every time they run the 20% off sale. This summer I ordered about $2k worth of stuff (a little overzealous...) and about half of it was out of stock. However, the discount gets locked in and they restock pretty quickly. It's not a Warner Bros. situation where'll you'll be waiting six months for the discs to arrive...
