I have a really small collection, just bought my player a couple weeks back. But so far my favorite would have to be The Matrix collection. If you are a Matrix fan this would be a good one to get.

And Amazon and DeepDicsount seem to be the favorites here. Right now deepdiscount is having a 20% off sale. Enter the code SUPERSALE when checking out.

Amazon.com (http://57x.org/0za/) is among the best places for HD DVD, and are always at least 30% off the MSRP. I recommend:

Comedy: Knocked Up, School for Scoundrels, The Matador, 40 Year Old Virgin, Shaun of the Dead
Action: Batman Begins, Chronicles of Riddick, Transformers, Hot Fuzz, Children of Men, Bourne Trilogy
Drama: Carlito's Way, Elizabeth, The Pianist, Black Snake Moan, Dreamgirls, Ray
Thriller: Dawn of the Dead, Slither, Disturbia, The Thing, The Skeleton Key, Feast

Fry's & Target have good price during the first week of release. AVS Classifieds have pretty good $ for slightly used.

Cheers,
TP.

The cases should be fine, but most find that their Universal releases have the UPC marred or cut. I have not received mine yet so I can't speak to it personally, but you can expect Pitch Black to have a modified UPC. If it goes through the case you can buy new cases at sleeve city:

My recommendations:

Comedy
Shaun of the Dead: great PQ, great AQ and some nice extras

Hot Fuzz: Stellar PQ (Demo level), great AQ more extras than you can shake a stick at

Dazed and Confused: Good PQ and AQ and one of the strongest casts a comedy has ever had.

A Christmas Story: The definitive Christmas Comedy

Action
Transformers: Great PQ, great AQ, wonderful extras that are not only exclusive, but ass to the story. You'll thank me when you see the downloadable videos.

The Ultimate Matrix Collection: Great PQ, Great AQ, IME, PiP, and HOURS of extras.

Batman Begins: Good PQ, great AQ, PiP, IME lots of other goodness

V for Vendetta: Great PQ, Great AQ, PiP, IME ana funny SNL skit with Padme.

Drama
Seabiscuit: Stellar PQ (Demo Quality), great AQ, lots of extras

King Kong (2005): Stellar PQ (Demo), great AQ, PiP, U-Control. This film also falls into the "Adventure" sub-genre.

Lucky Number Slevin: Great PQ, Good AQ and the best color saturation of any film on HDM. This film also fits into the "Thriller" sub-category

Children of Men: Great transfer, PiP, U-Control and plenty of extras

Casino: Classic Scorsese

Goodfellas: Not demo quality, but the best release so far and also Scorsese's best film.

Thriller

12 Monkeys: Not demo quality (intentional grain and muted colors), but a great story. Watch this and you will see where Brad Pitt developed the Loon role he played in Fight Club.

The Thing: Great PQ especially for an 80s flick, great story and arguably Carpenter's best film. You'll also never look at Wilford Brimley the same way again; this is a departure from his Oatmeal/Diabetes commercials.

Constantine: Like The Thing this is also a "horror" style film, great PQ, Great AQ, PiP and IME.

I'm out of time (leaving work), but I hope this helps.

EDIT: I forgot to mention The Manchurian Candidate: A nice little Drama/Thriller with good PQ and AQ.

The above listed are pretty nice suggestions. I'll go ahead and throw 300 in there (great action flick, great PQ and EXCELLENT sound) along with The Departed. If you have not seen it, do yourself a favor and pick it up. Along with being just a good HD DVD in terms of PQ and AQ, the storyline is spectacular.

I just went, they had a few and nothing for $20, even 300 was $5 more than 300 in blue ray.

This is very discouraging.

I saw planet earth for $64, cheaper than amazon. I'm into action and Sci Fi flicks, but I just mite pic up that Planet earth, so far I only own transformers.

Serenity, Dune, The Thing, Superman, Backdraft, V for Vendetta, Terminator 3, and 12 Monkeys would all be great choices... [and, assuming the quality is up to snuff, Tremors is coming out in a week]

Yup, I was thinking of getting, Dune, and The Thing, for sure, These are favorites of mine yet never purchased them, Serenity is on my list also.

I would buy Forbidden Planet, but I already have the classics on DVD.

I have so many DVDs already, I'm trying to buy what I don't have, its hard not to buy the Matrix set and T3, BSG is on my list but dam the prices for 1/2 seasons are crazy.

I apologize. I should have made it clear that I meant Wal-Mart's website because it seems that they only carry the newest releases in the store. I did pick up Top Gun for $18.86 while I was there though.

Superman Returns and Aeon Flux have excellent PQ and AQ in my opinion. I also really like Sunrise Earth, but I may be in the minority on that one.
