It is listed as having both French and English subtitles. I enjoy watching French movies with the French subtitles. I miss some words--especially slang--with a French soundtrack, but with the subtitles I can follow the movie and avoid English.

Yes looks like a great film I may have to get this along with a few others. The prices are not to bad from amazon.fr. I've ordred their once already. If this does infact have english subs I may get it.

I believe this is a region 2. Will it work in our current Bluray players?

wrong area, but the HD-DVD is region free so it will play in all HD-DVD players. no region coding. not sure if theirs a BD. if so it would have to be all regions to play

It's a HD-DVD disc (not combo or SD-DVD). HD-DVD discs aren't region code restricted.

That would be nice but I saw region 2 listed in Amazon's French site. Cut and pasted from Amazon France:

All HD-DVDs are region free. But sometimes they are listed as the local region. Prehapps its just a standerd setup or to sell more as region 0, or region free just seems odd sometimes.

But most of the HD-DVDs I've got have said region 2,4 on the back they all play with out any issues at all.

I've ordered this as well. They actually had a price mistake on the deluxe version with CD, book and calendar. Rather than 50 euros it was priced at 10. With the tax discount that made it 8 euros 50 cents. Its on backorder however since they probably sold more than expected due to the price error so I havent gotten it yet. Indeed there are no region codes on HD-DVD. I've gotten another HD-DVD from France that read zone 2. Worked fine.

I received mine yesterday (La Môme HD DVD). It refuses to play on my LGGGC-H20L dual (HD/BD) drive. I keep downloading Power DVD patches, but this one won't work!!

Putain!!

Oh dear, thats not good. Worked perfectly on my XA2. It does have web enabled features and the pop ups during the movie for more info on what you are seeing so maybe thats causing probs for you on the LG?

Could be. Shrek III does a "web enabled download" each time I load the disc and it plays unevenly (stuttering video and audio at random places). But La Môme won't get past the menu -which opens if you leave the disc on for about 20 minutes. And only the menu backgrounds are visible, no text or links.

I am debating wether I should retun this to Amazon.fr and send for the Blu Ray edition. Nice thing about the HD copy is that the English subtitles can be repositioned, which is perfect for my anamorphic setup. I don't need the subtitles but sometimes we have non-francophone guests over and this is a beautiful movie to show to friends.

I will pester LG about their current firmware updates, though my drive is only 10 days old, so it should be quite current.

Will keep everyone posted!

Works OK on my HD-A1 with latest firmware.

How do you re-position the sub-titles?
Thanks

I was surprised that it had english subs and pleased so I could show it to Friends as well. Fairly unusual for a French release in my experience.

I didnt know you could reposition the subtitles either.

Maybe we need some sort of official French market / French movie HD-DVD release / review thread as its a bit spread out right now and this thread has clearly deviated from the original title. Might not be enough demand for a thread for each release but there are enough of us interested to keep one thread going easily.

Yes a french HD-DVD thread would be great. I think many of the current ones devate to other movies.

I don't know because I can't get beyond blank menus! But according to dvdfr.com, it features "sous-titrage anglais réglable en taille et position". I also found out there that this is also available on the BluRay edition, which is all-region as well. So I guess I'll be going for it!

BTW, this is probably the best source of information for DVDs released in France.

I scoured all of the French online stores and have a pretty up to date list of the French releases. The details on the sites are very sketchy so if anyone knows which releases definitely do or don't have english subs, or forced subs on exclusive english movie releases it would be great to hear about them.

Here's the info I put in the import post:

La Grand Vadrouille
Audio: DTS HD-MA French
Subs: None

Prete-Moi ta Main
Audio: DTS HD-MA French
Subs: French

Les Chevaliers du Ciel
Audio: DTS HD-MA French

Deux Freres

huh, I must admit that my interest in this film was entirely piqued by last night's festivities, and this thread slipped me by back in Nov.

Anybody have official info on North American HDM release for this? While I do own T2 and Pacte de Loups from Canal (man, I'm going to miss region free...) I'd much rather just pick it up locally if there's rumblings of a release...

Who has seen 400 coups (400 blows). I am consdering this in my next amazon.fr order. Along with a few other that I've not decided. Amazon.fr is really doing a good job of sending my order. My last order was les gendarme set and sherfya luna CD which only took 1 week 1 day which is amazing consdering the distance. Also that fact that all my amazon.com orders took 1-3 weeks.

The english subs are not an issue really.
I was wondering about the PQ/AQ and over all story. The story seems good but wondering if I'm better of with the SE DVD that came out a few yearrs ago.

I've seen it several times. Classic Truffaut. I highly recommend it and have the HD-DVD. It's a coming of age story as the title in French suggests. "Faire les 400 Coups" in french is an expression that would be close to "sow your wild oats" in american english. I havent watched the HD-DVD yet. Stuck it in for a few mins and the picture quality was good, i've seen better but it was good.

The $25 shiped price was via the AVS HD-DVD sale area. It was used but was in mint condtion. As if someone just opened it for me.

I hope amazon.fr has a sale on HD-DVD as theirs a few id like to pick up. I've had a few emails from them on multi movie deals. But nothing I wanted.

Strange thing is that it only comes up as PCM on my receiver.
