Disclaimer: This is probly a very noob question but its got me puzzled.

I finally got my new receiver (Denon 1907) and after hooking it up to everything I used digital coax. cable to hook it from my dvd player to my reciever. This is where my problem lies, when I put a movie in, I dont get any sound from the dvd player. However, as soon as I go into the audio options and select DTS in the dvd's menu, I get sound. Does this mean that the coax can only send a digital signal and I have to run the composite stereo audio cables aswell as the coax digital?

thanks for the help

That's what the coax output is...digital. ;)

Analog is sent via composite;
Digital is sent via coax or optical.

This is really confusing me though, because last night when I put in Harry Potter 3 it worked through the digital coax even though its not dts. But when I put in star wars II no sound is produced. Is it just dvd to dvd variation?

Sounds like you need to set the receiver to "Auto" mode so that it will automatically detect what is being sent to it via the digi coax connection. It sounds like you currently have the 'mode' set to "DTS".

And no, you don't need to connect the R/L composite audio cables to watch (listen to) your DVDs.

I knw it's tough to decipher, but read your manual. Twice. Then read it again. ;)
