Other people are saying it is not a wise purchase for a blu-ray player on the z4 since its native is 720 p. they also think i would be better off with a nice up convert. so does that mean that everyone has a 1080p projector that has a blu-ray player? hard to belive that. Just looking for some advice and opinions [
thanks ,

I have a z4 and ps3 hooked up to it. Not only do I notice a HUGE difference between dvd and blu-ray, but my parents even noticed a huge difference. And they still call dvds "cds" (they are not tech savy folks).

I wasn't going to buy a high definition DVD player because I have a 720p Panasonic projector. However, when WalMart had HD-DVD players on sale for $98.97, I figured it was so cheap it was worth a try.
I was really surprised at how much better the high definition picture is than standard DVD - it's a lot better - even normal people notice. You would probably have a similar experience with a Blu-Ray player.

Good advice: Upgrading your source is the best move you can make. You do however run the risk of NOT enjoying your SDDVD collection anymore.

Watching HD DVD or Blu ray @ 720p is leaps and bounds ahead of upconverted DVD at closer viewing distances....
Get an HD DVD player instead of an up-converting DVD player.
The HD DVD player up-converts plus you also get to enjoy HD DVD's, if you get a standard up-converting player thats all your guna have.
I have Blu Ray and HD DVD and an up-converting DVD player, the upconverting DVD player lives in a box in my garage.

Everything above is correct. As far as not noticing the difference at 720p-- that might be true if you were watching a 720p 22" set from across the room. But on a projector, it's much different. Going from DVD to a next-generation machine is like the lens had been coated in vaseline and then cleaned.
Look for deals on HD DVD players as we approach the holidays-- you could find one for the price of a regular upconverting DVD player.
Glad to see the comments above. I have a Mitsubishi HC1500, and have decided I want an HD-DVD player as a Christmas present to myself. Good to know that the PQ improvement will in fact be substantial, and not just limited to very fine, picky details. :)
thanks everyone for the advice. Just now to decide hd or blu-ray:confused:
I own a Z4 that I send hd-dvd and blu-ray to it. I run 1080i from both players via hdmi and I could not be more happy. Most of the movies reviewed on the forum as tier 3 does not look like it on player regardless of the format. As a matter of fact...most of my family say that it is better then the local movie theater. Boy....watching movies instead of tweaking is sooooo much fun.
thanks everyone for the advice. Just now to decide hd or blu-ray:confused:
Best to budget for both as the studios are divided. Watch for all the upcoming sales. You can still possibly get into HDDVD for a Franklin. Good shopping.
