My TV went bye-bye. I have a replacement, but I hate to toss this thing if it's an easy fix. Unfortunately it's $100 just to get it looked at, and that is not going to happen considering I don't really need it.

What happened was a sudden loud pop and the screen going blank. Afterward the power button started flashing. This is all it does now if you try to power it on. I was thinking maybe the transformer blew, but I don't know how to test it. Any other ideas? No one wants to take this thing so I can either keep it and try to fix it, or send it off with the recycling.

Your TV is now less than meets the eye, just like your post - it's in the wrong forum. This is for front projection systems, like the big sticky note says right at the top.
