I just got my new Mits 65833 (my second). My first looked amazing but had a whine. This one has no whine, but i swear i'm seeing something (either SSE or SDE) in the light scenes that i didn't see on my first set. Is this possible? I have it out of torch mode and using settings from users here (low temp, natural, etc).
Here is a pause shot from Eragon HD (which looked awesome on the first set):

Any thoughts? Am i just seeing things??

AIUI from the many posts/threads here on the topics*, the close spacing of DLP micromirrors eliminates so-called screen-door effect (SDE), which usually appears on some LCD displays that have wider gaps between red-green-blue subpixel elements. Silk-screen effect (SSE), though, is an optical interaction between small microdisplay structures and the fine optical structure of RPTV screens (Fresnel and lenticular lenses). SSE appears as a shimmering action in bright image areas. -- John
*Go to Google.com and use avsforum as the first search term, then SSE, then brands and/or model numbers.

Thanks. I did search SSE a bit, but couldn't find my issue exactly. I'll try the google search.
As i said what i see doesn't look right to me. I'm still very new to this, so i could be way off base. It appears to be SSE according to your description. I wonder if there is a definitive test to determine the level of SSE. Can it vary between sets (like a mechanical issue) or is just a function of how each model is designed.

Looks like sever macroblocking
Thanks for the response. What exactly is that and is it fixable by a tech? Is it a signal issue or TV? This same recording looked fine on the firstTV... i think. It's hard to remember now.

It's a signal issue. Macroblocking usually occurs from low bit rate or overly compressed programming. (*cough* DirectTV)

Thanks. Makes me feel better. I guess i figured HD would look better even on DirectTV. I'm actually getting a Tosh A3 HDDVD Friday so i'll test it more then.

SSE these days is usually caused by the manuafacturer attempting to use a higher gain screen to compete with the torch that is LCD ad Plasma in the showroom.
