Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of damage a power surge can do to a DLP TV. Is it just the power supply and light bulb or could the color engine be damaged as well? Would surge damage be "all or nothing" or could it be a gradual thing? I have a WD-73833 and am getting surge protection for it soon, but I need to get the house rewired and by the time all's said and done it will have been up and running for about 3 weeks without surge protection. I unplug it when I'm not using it (not before the fan runs down). Thanks for the information.

If you were to experience a big surge at any time it could fry multiple things inside the tv and possibly ruin it. Any of the boards inside the tv as well as what you mentioned are at risk. Why can't you use a surge protector each time you use the tv and unplug it when not in use? Especially if you are having wiring redone. All kinds of spikes can occur.

Or else, just not use the tv till the work is done.

Can't use a surge protector because its a 2 prong outlet. You're probably right...I shouldn't be using it. I'm running the new wire and putting in the 3 prong tomorrow...after that everything should be good.
