The Holiday season is coming up so there are some really good deals on HDTVs right now. I'm looking to spend between 1000-1500 and want a minimum of 42". Here are the ones that I've found so far through my research, however i'm open for suggestions.
1)
Samsung 50" DLP Rear Projection HDTV
Model #: SAM HLT5076S
Price: 1299 (500 off from Circuit City)
2)
Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV
Model #: PAN TH42PZ77U
Price: 1499
3)
LG - 47" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
Model: 47LC7DF | SKU: 8278197
Price: 1499
4)
LG - 50" 720p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV
Model: 50PC5D | SKU: 8254355
Price: 1399
5)
Sony - BRAVIA 50" 1080p Rear-Projection LCD HDTV
Model: KDF-50E3000 | SKU: 8390537
Price: 1424
6)
Philips 42" LCD HDTV
Model #: PHL 42PFL7422D

Those are the only ones that I have stumbled across in my research, I am certainly open to any ideas. I appreciate everyone's opinion!

1) Last year's Samsung 720p dlp rear projection set. Not a bad set actually but more advanced models are available for similar prices.
2) An excellent 1080p 42" plasma with a matte finish screen surface which will be a lot more glare resistant than the vast majority of Plasma sets. Check
Sears current price on this one.
3) LG is a sorta second tier mfg, not as good as Sony, Sharp, or Samsung for lcd. Not really a bad set and that's a good price.
4) Again, LG not as good as top tier Plasmas, 720p at that screen size might have noticeable pixel structure.
5) The E3000 LCD Sony is a very good value for the money, PQ and reliability should be very good.
6) Philips in general not very highly regarded, they use their Ambilight gimmick to disguise mediocre contrast ratios.
Overall, if 42" is big enough I'd go for that Panny plasma provided you are not going to be playing video games or watching channels with bright logos or tickers for really extended periods of time. I've seen these as low as $1199 this last Sunday at Sears, don't know if that price is still good.
If you must have something larger, don't have to hang it on a wall, and don't need to watch from extreme side angles one of the rear projection sets would be better, the Sony is 1080, has no color wheel. The Samsung will do bright vibrant cartoon like color very well.

In regards to #1 its listed as a 1080p set as opposed to a 720p. I have no intentions of hanging anything on the wall and will be using it occasionally for XBox 360 and HD DVD. Most of my HD viewing will be sports related. Thank you very much for your insights, i'm learning a lot and appreciate it!
