I am working with a JVC Everio Hybrid GZ-MG155. It uses .MOD and .MOI files on it. Without using the software that came with it, I have found info on the net that you can just change the file extension to .mpg and then use any program that supports mpg to view/play. My end goal is to create a SD DVD. The program I have/use to create DVDs is Studio 9 Plus. In the past with older camcorders I could capture the video and do what I needed. My version of Studio will not read .MOD files. In order for me to import mpg files it requires an extra license or add-in that I don't have. I can import avi or vob files though.

I tried using xilisoft to convert mpg to avi and to vob, but the quality goes to crap. When I view the original MOD file as a MPG, the quality looks just fine. I think a 10min chapter is around 800MB. Once converted it drops to around 200MB with either format and as stated looks crappy. How can I get these files to a format I can work with without loosing the quality?

Thanks

You can find a very good software for using your camera HD with your Mac.
Just have a look on the site iverio.alwaysdata.net.

iVerio stores, converts and renames automatically every files .mod from your HD camera.
