DangerBoy 11-13-07, 02:15 PM I would actually rent it in DVD if you haven't seen it before investing in the HD format.
I was dissappointed with the movie, but it is what it is. I like his other movies.
Flyfishingdad 11-13-07, 02:52 PM What's the deal with xploited? I checked it out and found that there are many movies there in HD DVD that aren't available here in the U.S. for instance Band of Brothers. Why is that? I'm not up to date on all these foreign releases or U.S. movies. I noticed that on Band of Brothers for instance it had two 5.1 DTS tracks, one in English and one in Japanese. Is this the real deal? When they finally do have an official U.S. release will it somehow be different? (aside from maybe not having the Japanese track)
I've seen other American movies available there that for some reason aren't available here in the U.S. and it seems like there were some that are only available here in the U.S. in Blu-Ray but can be found in HD DVD at Xploited?

HD DVD imports from Europe and Japan of US BR exclusives.

Films sometimes have different release schedules/different studios distributing in different countries. That's why region-free DVD players have been so popular among movie buffs.
If I want to get Fritz Lang's Ministry of Fear, or Flash Gordon with DTS and a commentary track, or a special edition of Creepshow... I need to order the DVDs from somewhere other than the U.S.
Xploited just takes the HD DVD release of interest from other countries and imports them for people, so you can just order in one easy (English) location.
bboisvert 11-13-07, 03:14 PM How good is it? I haven't seen it.
The honest truth is that it isn't very good. :)
But, I'm a Gilliam whore and this version (a) has the proper aspect ratio, unlike the US DVD and (b) retains all of the great supplements. It's enough to get me to fork over 30 bucks.

So are these high quality releases? I remember seeing some "foriegn" releases movies on VHS (that's going way back) that looked more like bootlegs than quality studio productions, but they weren't available in regular video stores so my friend bought them and I watched them with him.
I'd really like to get Band of Brothers in HD DVD, I just want to be sure I'm getting the full HD experience not some knock off, even if it is a Japanese release.

Good to know. The Gilliam whore I am will give this another shot.

Yes, these are legit releases.
I have the Band Of Brothers HD-DVDs and they are fantastic.
Xylon took some great screenshots of it awhile back. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=901348&highlight=Band+Of+Brothers

Yes, these are legit releases... they just happen to have been released in a country other than the U.S.
There's a sticky thread at the top of the forum that has some general discussion/reviews.

Simple.
They sell imported HD DVD movies that are BD exclusives in the US.:)
The advantage is that they are here in the US, thus shipping is very cheap and very quick as well. I usually recieve my orders in 2 days for merely $3. :)
To be more accurate, many of the HD DVDs available at xploited are only available via import not just domestic BR releases available as HD DVDs overseas.
Flyfishingdad,
In general, there aren't any "bootleg" type discs that I know of available in HD. That's not to say that there aren't differences in quality.
Rest assured that if you buy from xploited, you will receive first-class service.
BTW, I have the BoB set as well. IMO it's stellar.
lockheede 11-14-07, 01:58 AM Hmmm...seems like it is cheaper to buy from Xploited than www.amazon.fr...
Yeah, Tideland kinda sucked. But this looks to be a great edition of it, much better than the US DVD.

The Euro titles usually are, and they use DTS-HD Master Audio in almost all of their titles.
