here's the issue. I just switched from Directv to dish today. Now I have an HD DVR in my media room, that also sends a SD signal modulating on channel 60 to another unit. Now that room also does not have a standard TV, but a projector and a HT receiver. So, I get an antenna cable from the wall, and a oprojector and receiver that don't take COAX....so I probably need some kind of tuner? Something that takes coax in, turns on channel 60 and outputs audio to my HT and simple composite or S video to my projector. What do you suggest? No need for too high a quality here
thanks,
Peter

That's what old VCRs are for....;) .

That was my thought as well and I tried that. My VCR has a COAX input/output and RCA input/output. So I took the COAX to VCT input and used VCR RCA output.....No matter which channel I try on the VCR, it won't work

I assume you verified that the VCR is set to "TV" and not "VCR" (either front panel button or perhaps the remote)?

Is your VCR set to CABLE channel 60 or OTA channel 60 ? They are NOT the same....

You should first verify that your projector is getting an output signal from the OUTPUT jacks by going into the menus, and then do a "channel scan". By the time your get both of them done, I'll bet you get a picture.

my VCR only has 29 channels. The "cable guy" tried channel 29 yesterday, but now it's set back to 60, and I don't know how to change. Heck, Im so clueless, I don't even know how to set the VCR to TV, how to "go in to the menus and scan, etc....I thought I knew stuff until now:o

You don't have your Owner's manual ? If that's the case - go buy a new DVD recorder that can record OTA channels (analog , maybe digital /ATSC as well). And this time, READ and KEEP your owner's manual.

BTW - most VCRs have a remote, with a button that says "MENU" - that's usually a pretty good place to start...

thanks for the advice! I just tried the menu button, and I got an on screen menu...so I know that there is a video connection between VCR, through the HT to the projector.....It is a matter of getting the right channel. The menu really does not give me any option that makes sense. I'll try and fin the manual, I should have it somewhere, but I guess a trip to Fry's for a cheap VCR or tuner box may be my best bet

Usually there are options to "setup the tuner", as well as "program" recordings, and to set the time. Those are the important ones. On the tuner, you'll need to select "on the air"(antenna), cable, Cable HRC, and cable IRC.

thanks Scooper.....It had been so long for me working with a VCR. So I found the channel search function, and it won't find it.......if I leave my system on long enough, I will get a bit of a snowy pic of the Dish start page, but only noise. My other old VCR has no more remote, so no search function and is mono..... Oh darn I am way under sophisticated for this forum!!
I think I'll go out and buy something cheap:)

Y'all helped me so much, I thought the least I could do is give you an update. I went out and bought a cheap DVD recorder. Plugged it in, and it almost automatically started searching for the right channel. Works like a charm! I guess the VCR did not have an NTSC tuner in it. Thanks for all your advice!

Your old VCR probably DID - you just need to know how to get it setup correctly.

Any way - glad you found a solution.

Cool, and think of it this way... now you can record something from your dish network onto DVD! Pretty cool! Also you can use that DVD Recorder as a DVD Player for your projector.

You can actually change the UHF modulator channel to a different one than just 60 on the Dish receiver for the second tuner's output. If your VCR really does only go up to channel 29, you could've switched your Dish output to that channel.

Still, you should get some good use out of the new DVD recorder. It sure beats the old VCR's.

That was my thought as well and I tried that. My VCR has a COAX input/output and RCA input/output. So I took the COAX to VCT input and used VCR RCA output.....No matter which channel I try on the VCR, it won't work

The best way to use Coax cable to your VCR input then use again Coax Cable from output of you VCR( I assumed you do have Coax output in VCR) to your TV input.
