Two of my favorite movies that I am still waiting for, any idea if they will be out by xmas.

If they haven't already been announced with a release date, I doubt you'll see them before christmas. I'm also waiting on Dark City.

Man Dark City, one of the few movies I bought both on VHS and DVD. If it comes out for HDM it'll probably be the first that I've owned in 3 formats.

Not sure who owns Dark City, but it's one of the few movies that would cause me to go neutral if it came out exclusively in BR.

Donnie Darko is a FOX release so it wont drop in HD DVD and Dark City im pretty sure its New Line.

It's always a good idea to check who actually distributes the movies before asking this type of question. (Just go to a site like www.dvdempire.com and see who puts out the DVD.)

Dark City - New Line, so it would be on both formats. Nothing is announced, but they've been promising a "director's cut" release on DVD for a couple of years now (it was supposed to come out in 2006). I imagine it would hit HD with that release.

Incidentally, it seems like there's *still* a large chunk of folks that have not seen this movie. It's seriously one of the best from the past decade. I'd HIGHLY recommend people pick this up ($5.95 at DeepDiscount with the 20% off coupon... or a few bucks used pretty much anywhere.) The existing DVD is high-quality, with some great supplements.

Donnie Darko - Fox, so it would (currently) be blu-ray only. It's not announced yet anyway.

I have only seen upconvets of Donnie Darko on showtime. It's not even HD there for some reason.

Agreed, Dark City would be a great HDM title. But I would be seriously ticked off if it did not have the extras that the regular DVD had. For example, the commentary by Roger Ebert is awesome.

I have Donnie Darko in HD from HBO-HD. Doesn't look too bad, in 5.1 audio as well. Would definately pick it up on either format.

I have it in HD from I believe HBO,it looks darn good but as with everything fom cable I've seen the HDM iteration is more detailed.

I've previously said that I wouldn't pay $30 for an HD DVD movie. I'd pay that for Dark City in a heartbeat.

Just had to drop in, and pile on more love for Dark City. Simply an outstanding movie! It's about time I watched it again (if only on lowly standard DVD :) )...
