So who should be the first to author a lossless album, Neil Young :)? This could easily fit on a standard DVD. It seems like the next step since SACD and DVD-A are essentially dead.

I'd love to see some more high-rez music. The slow death of SACD & DVD-A is frusterating, as I was a huge fan of both.

Lossless audio on a DVD WOULD be DVD-A, since standard DVD doesn't support multi channel lossless.

If you are talking about putting on a HD DVD then you run into the problem of needing to have your TV on to navigate and play it, since HD DVD doesn't support audio only.

BD does has an audio only spec called Profile 3 but who knows if it will come to be.

Also under consideration are additional Performance Level 0 (PL0) and Performance Level 3 (PL3) player types. PL0 (a.k.a. simple profile or low performance) is intended for portable, automotive, audio and inexpensive devices
