In a lightning-fast turnaround to video, DreamWorks has announced a December HD DVD arrival for the Ben Stiller comedy 'The Heartbreak Kid.'
With Stiller's name above the marquee and the Farrelly Brothers behind camera, 'The Heartbreak Kid' was initially pegged to be one of the season's biggest hits, but instead it has only scraped up a relatively underwhelming gross of barely $35 million since opening last September.
DreamWorks will hope for a second life on video when it debuts 'Kid' (a remake of the 1972 cult favorite starring Charles Grodin in the Stiller role) in time for the New Year, with a December 26 day-and-date debut on HD DVD and standard-def DVD.
Extras are plentiful, including an audio commentary with the Farrellys, four featurettes ("The Farrelly Brothers in: The French Tradition," "Ben & Jerry," "Heartbreak Halloween," "The Egg Toss"), deleted scenes, a gag reel and the film's original theatrical trailer (in HD).
In a move that's sure to please fans, DreamWorks will be supporting Dolby TrueHD on 'Heartbreak Kid' along with Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 and subtitle tracks in English, French and Spanish, plus the studio's standard 1080p/VC-1 video.
Retail for the HD DVD is $39.98.
