Hi,
I can't get a picture up from my 1252 after fixing a 08 error.
The projector starts up fine now and when I look down the tubes there's a raster being displayed that I think is about the same dimensions as what I had it set up previously. But there's no picture and there's none of the usual info being displayed by the pj such as selected input or brightness/contrast when it's adjusted, or 'page' info. Just blank.
The remote works, I can change inputs and I can adjust the brightness/contrast and see the raster change accordingly. Also when I move between inputs the brightness and size of the raster changes, making me think the memory settings are still working.

Does anyone have any ideas?

This is what happened leading up to my lack of picture:
This morning when I went to power up the pj after not using it for a week, it turned off after about 3 seconds. I opened up the cover and there was an '08' error code showing. I'd noticed that previous times when I had the cover off and started the pj, '08' would blink twice before settling down.

Straight away I got onto these very forums and found that the first thing to try is pulling out the CPU boards and reseating them. Also to pull out any microchip on the cpu boards and reseat them as well. I did all that.
Then before I turned the pj on again I disconnected the HV lead from the HV transformer (couldn't do it at the back at the splitter.) To my fingers-crossed relief it started up and stayed on until I power it off 10min later. I waited an hour, reconnected the HV lead and still got a spark. Turned the pj on and there was no error code being shown either. In fact it doesn't show anything, it's blank, I think it used to show '00' before.

When I had the Y board out there were two chips I reseated. There was also a tiny little set of orange switches which I flicked down and back up (just for the hell of it.. well really because I wanted to exercise every connection I could find). Also next to this was a tiny grey button labelled 'SW2' which I pressed once or twice whilst I had the board out.

That's about it. I'm hoping it's as simple as some sort of hard reset on one of the boards.
I'd appreciate any thoughts on what could be the problem.

'cheers
Sim.

By flicking those tiny switches You may of wiped out your projectors main (driver) firmware,I hope not!!! + you shouldnt of taken any micro chips off any board's. I think you should take your projector to An authorised SONY repair agent in SYDNEY, like Stuart of PRO HI-TECH here in Melbourne before you cost your self any more money. Make shore you check that the SONY authorised repair tech has got experience working with CRT projectors,The reason I say SONY authorised is because thay may need access to special link's for board calibrations and other specialised stuff....

No, don't take it to Sony, you'll get raped..;)

The firmware erasure is quite possible, but I've got other CPU boards that I can either swap you for, or send me yours and I'll test them here. The CPU board is the most likely cause since the set stays running with no other error codes.

No curt sorry I should of been more clear, in Australia Sony no longer does CRT projector repairs they out sorce and offer training for certified tech's. Places like pro hi-tech also repair other stuff and they are extremly well priced I deal with them all the time. The problem in Australia is there is'nt many repair tech's with lots of CRT projector Experiance + if you are going to get something fixed you want A warranty on the part's that A repaired /replaced and sony AUS dont like to replace faulty part's under WARRANTY if they are not fitted by one of there SONY certified repair places,Its just not worth the risk in my apinion, as you would no Curt you can get A brand new board off Sony which can be faulty I have had/seen A few over the year's....

...it's working?!

I started the pj up again this morning (14hrs later) to check a few things and messages were appearing! The usual things, I could access page info and other such stuff. I haven't tried internal test patterns or actually inputting a signal yet. I don't quite trust the pj is back to a healthy status.

The error code display on the side is still blank. I'm concerned that there may still be a problem and that whatever internal part is responsible for safely shutting the pj down is itself broken.
I'm thinking of forcing an error and seeing if the pj will shut down. Would disconnecting any one of the onboard fans cause a shutdown? Is that the best thing to try?

Also, when I look down the lens with the contrast down and the brightness up and no signal being input, just a luminous raster: there's some noise in the raster like flickers of brightness. Nothing major, though noticeable. Random but with a semi regular spike every ~1.5 sec. I can't remember if this was there before. However, I'm not too concerned about this. It could be an aging PSU or even to do with the quality of the power coming into the house.
