Most of my video files play without combing ... DVDs as well.

However a number of files I have run across, like this one:

ID_FILENAME=30\ Rock.101.Pilot_1080i_dd5.1.ts
ID_DEMUXER=mpegts
ID_VIDEO_FORMAT=0x10000002
ID_VIDEO_BITRATE=80000000
ID_VIDEO_WIDTH=1920
ID_VIDEO_HEIGHT=1080
ID_VIDEO_FPS=29.970
ID_VIDEO_ASPECT=0.0000
ID_AUDIO_CODEC=a52
ID_AUDIO_FORMAT=8192
ID_AUDIO_BITRATE=384000
ID_AUDIO_RATE=48000
ID_AUDIO_NCH=2
ID_LENGTH=194.43
ID_VIDEO_CODEC=mpegpes

have terrible combing. Just horrific.

But it's not a speed/CPU issue - the file plays fine - no dropped frames, etc. - they really play just fine.

So is combing a function of the video card combined with the display ? Is it just a question of fine tuning my HZ output with my custom res app ?

Or does it come from somewhere else ?

The bottom line question is: if a file that otherwise plays perfectly has combing, is it safe to assume that some future configuration or tweak/tune can solve it ?

Or is combing some underlying issue with he gma-950, or some artefact that is always seen with plasma-over-DVI and there is no solving it ?

1080i is interlaced. If you are using vlc to play the file goto the video menu and select one of the deinterlace options.

ok, thank you. Yes, I am using VLC.

Does this mean I have to toggle the settings back when I play a non interlaced file ? Will I have to switch back and forth regularly ?

Or is there some way to have it adapt back and forth depending on the input file ?

I have not tried this myself but, under preferences menu, turn down the video triangle and the filter triangle, select the filter line and check deinterlace, select the deinterlace line and change to blend, press save button. Let me know how it goes, I don't seem to have any interlace videos handy.

I changed both settings to blend ... didn't fix much.

Moot point - I am returning the 2.0 ghz c2d mac mini because it cannot play very high bitrate h.264 and VC-1 video.
