I was thinking of using these: banana plus crimping (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=091-1168)
I was wondering if they would work/not work for solid core 16-18 gauge wire.
This is not audio related, and a little story follows:
I need to run some power to a 1"x1"x.5" cathode electrode and a similar sized anode electrode. My electric feedthrough is between 16-18 guage copper solid core. My ultra-high vacuum testing chamber is relatively small, so my initial idea of screwing down the feedthrough to the electrodes has failed because I can't get a screwdriver/hex wrench into the chamber comfortably.
My idea was to eliminate this "Screw down" technique and just use banana plugs kind of like how people do for their speakers. The choice of banana plug termination is because I will be unplugging/replugging on the order of 1x per day. I need something that is robust, provides good electrical contact, and is easy to plug/unplug with minimal space.
I will machine a post that can accept the banana plug.
Any ideas/comments appreciated!
Notes:
Since this is UHV environment, no rubbers, no materials that can outgas are allowed. The device must be entirely metal, no plastics, etc.
Thanks!
