Good afternoon. I bought a DVD player, home theater system Philips HTS3555, since I wanted to use the upscaling feature. I have a 55" HD Philips RPTV that has a DHCP DVI connector. I bought a DVI to HDMI adapter and the player shows video normally through it, but on the DVD player menu for HDMI, it is stuck in "auto" and the options other than "auto" are grayed out. So it will not allow me to choose 720p, 1080i, etc. And when I press the display button on the remote it shows that the tv is in 480p. I've searched all over the forum and didn't found why this was happening if it is supposed that HDMI is based on DVI so it should work fine. I know the TV is capable of those resolutions since I connect an Xbox 360 using component and I can select even 1080i and the tv shows on the display that is no that resolution. Any help on the matter would be great. Thanks so much in advanced.

Some DVD players won't let you force a resolution and rely on the "handshaking" to get available resolutions. This problem shows up in your situation when you are connecting to a DVI input display when for some reason the handshaking doesn't doesn't work. Most players just let you select whatever resolution you want. Probably need a firmware update for the player or a different player unless there is a way to force the output resolution.
