I am looking at getting a TV in the next week or 2 to fit our new entertainment center. I have read alot about the green blobs on the older Sonys and am slightly concerned that the KDF-50E3000 may have the same problem. Anyone with this TV have this issue? The other TV that we are looking at is the Samsung HL-T5075S.

I've had my KDF-50E3000 for about 2 weeks and have not seen any blob or screen deformities. Very happy with the TV.
I have had the 46" version for a week, looks great. I did spend a little more and bought it locally so I could have easily returned it if there were problems.

I have had the tv for a month and a half and have had no blob issues. I did have to replace the bulb after 1 month, but so far I am the only one I see on this board that had that problem. The new bulb looks great.

Do you know why the bulb failed so prematurely? Was it a display unit or something?
Was the bulb covered, or did you have to pay?

It was not a display unit as far as I know and I have no idea why it went so fast. Sony said it could be the surge protector I used and that they reccomend that you always plug the tv straight into the wall (which is the first I have heard that advice).

It was covered under the 1 yr Sony warranty that came with the tv. I called on a Friday evening and the bulb arrived the next Tuesday morning and works perfectly so far. You do have to send the old bulb back within 20 days or they charge you for the new bulb.
