I wasn't sure where to post this but since it has to do with both formats and other things I thought here would be ok. Almost all of my electronics are plugged into two power strips (two seperate rooms) but there are times that I dont use either for a few days sometimes and I was just wondering would it damage my stuff at all if I turned the power strip off? Since they are always sucking energy at point does it damage the electronics by turning them off and on? (not stand by)

Im not totally sure but my Panny TV loses the date and time if it gets completely removed from a power source, in other words not plugged in. Killing the power strip switch is effectively unplugging it.

You can try it and next time your stuff gets powered up you can see if it "lost" settings or whatever. Otherwise, the consensus seems to be that constant powering on and off of gear isnt good but routine useage and then shutting off isnt a big deal. You'll have to experiment.

It shouldn't hurt anything. But like said you may lose settings. In some case have to reset everything as soon as you power back up.

It wouldn't work for me because my DVDO is prone to dumping it's settings, and my video projector has a cool-down phase it must go through to avoid melt-down. In fact, I bought UPS power-backup so I have few minutes grace to shut things down if the power goes off.

If I plug a Powerstrip into an outlet and I plug nothing into it then all I have done is extend the outlet from the wall to the Powerstrip

If all my components are plugged into the Powerstrip and they are all in the OFF position and there is a current draw because OFF is really not off, but sort of a "sleep" or standby mode - then turning off the Powerstrip is like unpluggung the component.

If OFF really means off then you are not saving anything.

well if I turn my power strip off then all the stand by lights go off so it is really off. My tv has a power saving mode I have it on aynways so it always looses the date and time but nothing else. I just bought another lcd and I'm on the second one because when its off it makes a slight humming sound so I think I'll have to get a third one. But when I do turn things off (unplugged) its cause I dont use them for a few days and I dont unplug it to turn it off.
