Also posted in HD section.

Just ordered a 4661F and will pick it up this week.

Now the question:

This will be a TV in a second home (FL) and will not be hooked up to any external speakers/surround. Will be using the Sammy's attached speakers.

Will need a DVD player and have really only looked at the Tosh A2 or A3.

Which would be better or am I wasting my $$$ on a HD-DVD player since I will never have a surround system in this condo?

Or any other suggestions? Not looking to break the bank because would only use the player a couple times each time down.

Or just get a upconverting DVD player?

Will rent/buy HD disks (very few) when buying/renting, but most will be currently owned DVD's.

Would like to order today to have delivered/picked up for Thanksgiving weekend.

Thanks.

You're asking some pretty fuzzy questions.

Which would be better or am I wasting my $$$

Are those the only two choice? And what is "better" has a big subjective component that no one else can answer.

on a HD-DVD player since I will never have a surround system in this condo?

But there's more to HD video than surround sound, right?

Or just get a upconverting DVD player?

There are fine players available. They don't play HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. If you absolutely don't need the latter, then you can save some money.

Boy, that was a pretty fuzzy answer.

A simple suggestion would have been OK.

But, I guess you reallly didn't have a suggestion or helpful comment?

Sorry.

I've been happy with my Oppo 980 ($169) and 981 ($229). I haven't bought HD-DVD or Blu-Ray yet because the content selection is still very slim. But if I were spending money today I would look hard at the HD players for which very nice forums already exist here.
