Help please?
I am looking to upgrade an older Sony 5.1 receiver and want to keep below $300 if at all possible.

I am leaning towards these two models.
The Onkyo 505 or the Sony 710 as I can get good deals on them this week.

Any advice on why one would be better than the other?

I currently have a Sony rear projection TV with HDMI and a Dish Network 622 HD sat receiver.
No immediate plans for HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. (I'll wait on that war of formats)

I would like to have HDMI "up converting" as opposed to just "switching".
(I don't fully understand that, I think its something to do with running everything thru one cable?)

Any advice would be appreciated or any other suggestions for receivers.

thanks

TX-SR505 hands down over the STR-DG510 based simply on the far better connectivity options. Just compare the rear panels. BTW, I am a Sony DG1000 owner.

samsurd: I'm starting to lean towards the DG1000... any reason to get the 1100 over that, as there is about a $300 price difference from Amazon. Also, what does the 1000 have that I would benefit from over the 910?

well, thanks for all the "help".
I went ahead and bought the Onkyo 605 instead.
Found it locally on sale for less than $400!

Also, what does the 1000 have that I would benefit from over the 910?The 910 does have one more HDMI input than the DG1000 (3 vs 2) but there are some features the DG1000 has that the DG910 does not have. You have to judge whether these are significant when balanced against the 910 cost saving.
