Its an older 4:3 model with no digital input.

What kind of issues will 4:3 provide and also it says it has a dvi port wich is hdcp isnt that digital input? thanks.

Since where here talking from this site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FD_Trinitron/WEGA

the models below the models that have that super fine pitch technology what models in there will be better than say the model i started from this thread?

I see some sony models in my local areas from craiglist but there not the super fine pitch ones though, and my coworker has a kv-??hs420 i forgot the size of it and xbox360 looked good on it. but he was getting the black borders what does that mean?

There are many errors on that page concerning DVI/HDMI inputs. I believe the XBR800 was the first to have DVI.

I recommend any of the 34" widescreen sets listed on that wiki page except for the XBR2. The SFP sets are a step above the rest. Each of the other ones may have minor differences in features that may make a difference to you.

As for black borders, there are many different issues that can come into play here and the specifics would have to be discussed. XBOX 360 should play VERY well on any of my recommended sets.

I think all the sets with the Hi Scan tube will display the PS3 at the same resolution 853 x1080i. The sets with the SFP tube will display at a crisper 1440x1080i. This is the key difference between all the Sony HD CRTs, whether they be Hi Scan or SFP tubes.

Other than that the difference is whether the set is a 16:9 tube or a 4:3 and the different inputs it has like DVI or HDMI, but the big difference is between Hi Scan and Super Fine Pitch.

If you do settle on a HI Scan set they are fine, games look great on my 3KV-36XBR800 and it is a Hi Scan tube. But after picking up that 800 I saw a SFP KV-34XBR910 with the stand for $300 so I couldn't pass it up. So now I have both sets and I can compare the Hi Scan tube to the SFP tube side by side ( well, they are in different rooms) and I must say that the SFP tube 910 is sharper in picture quality than the 800. Not by a huge margin, but it is noticeable.

One thing I have not done is play via a DVI or HDMI input. I have been using component cables only and I don't know what kind of difference in image quality the DVI or HDMI cable would make for the PS3 or 360, so I can't say first hand how important having a set with HDMI or DVI is.

Well so I should only get one if is a super fine pitch of course or if its a Hi scan one to get one with a hdmi or dvi port right?

So I guess forget the model I started the thread with, but this one is in my area KV-36XBR400 does this one have a dvi port at least, i looking in google and I havent seen the word DVI yet just all other inputs plus a "monitor output" is that DVI?

Thanks...

Thanks...I don't believe the XBR400 has a DVI port. The DVI port allows you to connect digital video to the set. The DVI port is HDCP compliant and can be used for inputs that require an HDCP port. Most upconvert DVD players require an HDCP compliant port for upconversion. I suspect that in the future, more HD content will require this as well. A DVI port is a good step in future proofing your options.

Found some specs on the inputs on that 400.

"In addition to S-video and two RF inputs, the KV-36XBR400 includes two sets of HD component inputs. Emulating the movie-theater experience, the sets also come with an enhanced DAC system with TruSurround sound and sub-woofer out."

Doesn't sound like it has DVI.

Another thing to understand is that running DVI or HDMI through a Hi Scan tube will not make it display like a SFP tube. I am pretty sure about that, although I have never used those inputs, so I am just assuming.

Component looks just as good, or better than DVI/HDMI in all cases.

It only has two drawbacks.

1080p (so I'm told)
and lacks HDCP (which is a mixed story anyway)
