I bought the Samsung HD931 DVD player three years ago to go with our HDTV. Yes, I later saw all the bad reviews but haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. I just got a new 720p LCD (Panasonic PT-50LCX70) and wanted use an HDMI connection to view the picture. This connection is not showing a picture. Luckily, I kept my component cables because they are working and the picture has great detail and color. I've checked the connections and read the manuals but still no go.

If the player and the HDMI cable are just not compatible, then so be it. But I'd like to hear if this is just a problem unique to this combo or if it happens elsewhere?

Your question is probably best posted in either the HD-931 thread or the Panasonic 50LCX70 (or similar) thread.

2 questions though...

1. Does the display have different color space settings for the HDMI input? They'd probably be labeled RGB/PC or Component/YCbCr/YUV? Since the player uses a DVI port, it will only output RGB. Most HDMI displays should be smart enough to recognize the difference automatically, but some may have to be set to RGB manually.

2. Do you get a picture via DVI->HDMI if you reduce the player's resolution to 480p? If not, then it sounds like the player may not be compatible with the display. You could try resetting the player to the defaults though to see if that helps.

Folks in the above threads may be able to shed more light on the issue though.
