View Full Version : New JVC Projector is out there
Art Sonneborn 11-20-07, 09:23 AM I guess this qualifies for this forum. The specs of 3500 lumens and 10,000:1 on/ off makes it more of a home theater or small venue device.

The DLA-SH4K projector by Victor
Rate this News: What about the NEXT level in image quality?
What about a 4096x2400 pixels resolution, and a 10000:1 contrast or brightness of 3500 Lumens?
Yep I'm talking about a video projector, and a great one, the Victor DLA-SH4K.
This masterpiece is available with a Xenon lamp and features a DVI 12bit/Dual Link in, capable of receiving 4 different signals. Of course so much technology comes at an impressve price...
What about 15 million Yens (90.000 Euros) ?
How much in USA Dollars ?????
Terry
Lewis68 11-20-07, 10:42 AM about $136,000.00 US , wow.
joeycalda 11-20-07, 12:18 PM Hey Art I thought we were done looking at projectors? Who were we kidding;)
It could be worse we could be coin collectors

Swampfox 11-20-07, 05:36 PM about $136,000.00 US , wow.
Can you stack them?:D:D:D
and what will the street price be? :)
Naturally JVC will test the waters to see how much companies and people are willing to pay for this level of performence.
Where will their asking price meet what customers are willing to pay?
We should applaud JVC for their technology efforts. I hope that will give them financial reward in some way.
mark haflich 11-20-07, 08:12 PM Screw the AVS rules. POWER BUY :) Just kidding.
Art. Do you thing my 110"D 1.3 gain 1.78 could handle this without bursting into flames?
inky blacks 11-21-07, 01:38 AM What's the point of that much resolution for home theater when the highest input you will ever get is 1080 by 1920?
If JVC and Canon got together they could easily produce a 3,000 lumen 1080 home theater projector for well under 10k.

Dizzman 11-21-07, 02:27 AM Because this projector goes to 11...
Alimentall 11-21-07, 09:47 AM 3 or 4 years ago, I think, I made a "projection" about about when what would be available and for how much and I think I'm still in the game on this one. Once 3-chip 1080 projectors are at $30-$50K that means they'll drop in half in year and flagships will begin to adopt 4K panels. I think 3-chip DLP 1080ps will be below $10K by end of next year and single chips will be under $3K. So where are they going to go? 4K!
Alan Gouger 11-21-07, 10:45 AM John I think that is a stretch, the time frame. I think you are right but it will sadly take many years before we hit your target. The trend, add a new coating to the chip each year. Soon it will be the DC5, another reason keep the price tag elevated.
While 3 chip DLP at 10k would be sweet, from a business standpoint it would wide out a portion of their 1 chip business.
Alimentall 11-21-07, 11:38 AM I always think it's a stretch too, but then it happens. I didn't think we'd see $5K 1080 1-chip DLPs, thinking there'd be some delay or puase, but the technology curve dictated they'd be here and here they are.
Michael Grant 11-21-07, 12:18 PM What's the point of that much resolution for home theater when the highest input you will ever get is 1080 by 1920?The same reason why 480p DVDs look better on a high-def display. Digital video isn't really supposed to be reproduced with square pixels, so having higher display resolution than the source lets you use intelligent scaling to get closer to the ideal. I concede however that there is a law of diminishing returns here though, given how small the source pixels already are.
inky blacks 11-21-07, 12:33 PM Manufacturers should concentrate on the things that are important, like a RGB laser light source, not more pixels, at least for home theater. There may be uses for a 4k projector in the scientific and medical fields, however.

Alan Gouger 11-21-07, 12:50 PM In my opinion we are in far more need of a completely new color system but Ill take the additional fill factor any day.
Michael Grant 11-21-07, 02:33 PM I don't think it's a zero-sum game. That is, I don't think that JVC's efforts to produce a 4K projector are necessarily detracting from their efforts to improve contrast or other PQ features.
