...which would you recommend over the other?

I'm looking to buy 1 new game for now and have decided on either Mass Effect or Assassin's Creed.

My current game lineup is:
Cod4, Bioshock, Orange Box, Oblivion, NHL 08, GH2, GH3, Forza 2, DIRT, Madden 07, Cod3, GoW, Rainbox 6 Vegas - to give you an idea of what my interests are.

I don't have bucket loads of time to play - but I also want a game that will keep my interest for a while. I haven't "finished" any of the above games because I just tend to hop around back and forth - then get interested in the "latest - greatest" release and snatch it up.

Anyway - what game would you get between Mass Effect and AC? Thanks.

Bill

Definitely Mass Effect.

^^

I read one review where the guy said this game will be talked about for years and be played years later.

Thanks guys - I may be near a BB later today and was hoping for a few suggestions. I'll probably snag Mass Effect.

I resisted the urge to pick up Assassins Creed last week to hold out for Mass Effect. I've heard amazing things about Mass Effect from an industry friend who has been playing it for a week.

I don't have either yet but I"m getting Mass Effect today. If you just look at the reviews you'll see Mass Effect is rated way, way higher than Assassin's Creed. A few reviews I read call Mass Effect the best RPG on the 360 period.

It doesn't take much to be the best RPG on the 360, LoL.

I own AC enjoy it and play it for hours on end at times. I will be renting Mass Effect from Gamefly... with all the hype I may grab a copy after work today and bypass renting it. So many games, so little time...

I like Assassin's Creed. I have no interest at all in Mass Effect.

If you like the genre there are some REALLY good ones on the system. Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, Enchanted Arms, and Oblivion.

Blue Dragon did not review well, but if you like how stale Final Fantasy has become it will surprise you. The others are every bit as good as the "great" RPGs on the PS2. I will take fewer/better titles, personally.

From your game list, I don't recommend either AC or Mass Effect. Both are on the slow side in terms of action and you may not enjoy either. I feel both games are awesome, with Mass Effect winning due to its shear brilliance as an RPG. Mass Effect will be talked about years later by rpg fans like Baldur's Gate or Fallout is talked about now. AC will probably be forgotten in another month.

I've played them. Nothing epic, imo. The PS1 had the all time greatest RPGs.

Blue Dragon is horrible. Enchanted Arms has a faggot in it. Oblivion was good for the first 20 hours then got repetitive and all the dungeons were the same. Eternal Sonata is decent.

Your an extremely shallow and sad person. Enchanted Arms, is a video game with a gay person in it. When you say something like "faggot" it makes you look so closed minded. Just because you don't agree with being gay does not mean that others want to hear your name calling.

Please use a little common sense next time. and think before you type the word "faggot" in a public forum where others may be gay.

Thanks ...

I have both games ... I would choose Mass Effect. I am starting to like AC the more I play, but I don't nearly play AC as much as Mass Effect. :)

I"m at the last mission on AC but it'll have to wait till Mass Effect is done. That's just how it is!

What's wrong with having a bundle of sticks in an RPG?

Assassin's Creed is the type of game you rent.

Mass Effect is the type of game you buy.

I bought Mass Effect.

Your playlist looks like mine. I am not a RPG fan so I would say Assassins Creed. Now all you RPG fan boys I don't want to here it. I have given RPGs a try but they are just not my thing. I tried KOTOR I &II and I even tried WOW and SW Galaxies. I was going to try the Matrix one but that was about the point where I got pissed off at PC games as a whole and wiped my hard drive and swore to never install a game on it again. It wasn't a RPG game that brought that about. Just sick of driver issues, hardware issues, DRM issues...etc. So now I am a console only gamer. I may rent Mass Effect one day but it is low on the list for now.

I haven't played Mass Effect yet, but I bought Assassin's Creed. If you're looking for a cool platformer with old school controls and next gen looks, it's a great game. However, I wouldn't call the game play next gen.. So yeah, I agree with Krone7.

From everything I've heard, Mass Effect will give you a lot of hours of play..So if You prefer RPGs, or liked KOTOR I'd go for that. I probably won't pick it up 'till next year, but we'll see.

I have both Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect. I loved KOTOR 1 & 2 -- the latter even despite the ho-hum ending -- and consider them the best tales told in the entire Star Wars universe. I'm an unabashedly RPG kind of guy.

And I have to tell you, only two or three hours into Mass Effect so far and it is NOT grabbing me. I like the visuals, I like the character models... not so fond of the much-touted facial animation, but maybe that's my bias as a former character animator? I dunno, I was expecting something that felt more evolved from KOTOR, and I'm not sure I'm getting it.

I've found myself thoroughly fascinated with Assassin's Creed from the get-go, and in fact while playing Mass Effect I'm thinking "Gosh, I wish I were playing as Altair instead of Shepherd."

I'm prepared to give myself more time with Mass Effect and see if the gameplay really grabs me, but for now, I'll be the dissenting voice that prefers Assassin's Creed.

AC is boring me to tears despite my anticipation. It's far too slow. I put it away and pulled out Ace 6 again. Hopefully, ME will be far better than AC.

Dub where did yo ugrab Mass Effect at CC here in North Little Rock doesn't have it.I pre-purchased ME at the Gamestop in Chenal/West Little Rock (where we attended the Halo 3 midnight launch). I paid for it last Friday and picked it up this morning. I'll be going by Target and Best Buy tomorrow AM, I'll keep an eye open and see if they have any copies.

I like Mass Effect better the more I play it, but I'm still partial to Assassin's Creed at this point.

I just don't get why people are going to buy AC when they do the same thing nine times in a row for 10-12 hours. There is no replay value to it. It is a game you rent.

Mass Effect is more like 15-20 hours straight through no side missions which would make it more like 40. After you're done with the campaign you can play it again as a completely different character(different powers and personality to get a completely different game from the first one.)

I picked it up at the GS near Wal-Mart in NLR. I just got home and haven't played Mass Effect but like you said I am hooked on AC. Just like with most my games I spend more time just playing rather than worrying about how long it takes me to beat it. Too much in my life outside of games to do.

Thanks for all the info guys. I picked up Mass Effect yesterday and got to play it for about 3 hours last night - so far I really like it - seems like a nice combo of game styles.

Being the geek that I am - I'll still probably end up buying AC in the semi-near future to add to my collection of uncompleted games. ;)

I'm not a huge RPG fan. All I can say is I played 10 min of Mass Effect last night and this is game of the year in my book. I was blown away by the graphics and the realism. It puts together the combat and RPG element perfect in my mind. Can it get any better the only way let it install on the harddrive to cut load time. This was the first game I had to stop playing because I knew I would be playing half the night so I had a time limit set. I can't stress it enough if you like video games and you don't need a fast paced game this is it. This is the closest thing to controlling a movie you will get and at the same time it feels huge.

OK, maybe it's a hybrid. A FPRPG, if you will. But solely a RPG? No way.

OK, maybe it's a hybrid. A FPRPG, if you will. But solely a RPG? No way. It's every bit the RPG that Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate or Fallout is; the only difference is that the combat isn't derived from a d20 system. Just because Oblivion is told from a first-person perspective doesn't negate its role-playing elements, which are actually fairly strong.

I agree, Dub. When I think RPG, I think first about an epic story, interaction with NPC's, main/side quests, class customizatation and creation, weapons/skills upgrades, and fair amount of freedom to do what I want with several different ways of getting the job done. The combat system is just one aspect. And Mass Effect has all that in abundance too.
