I tried to connect my HR20 to my 3 LNB dish before the installer gets here next week. I am getting almost perfect reception from all three satellites on my Sony 300. The HR20 goes throuh the set up process, it see's that I have a 3 LNB dish and I check signal strength on all three satellites and they are near 100 percent. Then the HR20 says it can't see any satellites! If I continue the process it gets hung up on getting the guide info. I removed the B Band converter and tried agin but it made no difference

Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?

Have you activated the card? Without the access about the only thing you will get is channel 100. I activated four today for folks and they all just had the one channel--no problems.

Thanks for your reply.
The card has been activated but it won't even get to the point where it will receive anything. In the setup, all goes well untill it checks on the satellites. Each satellite fails to register. Prior to this it shows a signal of nearly 100 percent on all satellites and transponders on tuner 2, much less on tuner 1. I am beginning to think this may be a defective box.

Just a guess, but the hr20 & hr21 may not be able to communicate with the 3 lnb dish, only the new 5 lnb dish. Good luck, keep us posted.

They have no trouble communicating with a 3 lnb dish. Call D* and have them trip their signal again and at least a couple of times. Check your dish alignment. The B band converter does not need to be hooked up for a single line. If none of this works reset everything to default and do the set up process again.

I have reset the reciever several times. Unplugged it etc. It takes a long time at the beginning searching for the satellite signal. It does register srong signals for all three satellites but it doesn't register the satellites! At this moment, it won't even get past the rearching for satellite screen. I've tried it now in two different locations

My other three receivers, Sony 300's get perfect reception so the 3 LNB dish is aligned correctly. Altho this HR20 has been activated, shouldn't it find the signal even if it wasn't?

Yes it should. Do you get a picture on channel 100? Sounds to me like you need to call D*'s technical support.

I called D* and they are sending some one out.

Thanks for all the suggestions

If your 3 lnb works in the past should work with a hr20. I installed a hr20 a couple of days ago. Don't connect the BBC (broad band converter) when using 3 lnb disk. Reset your system and do a "full setup from scratch" and it should see the dish correctly. Also you may get a update within the first 30 minutes (I had phone line connect too..) Also use Satellite Input 1

I get all the HD channels using mp2 (70-79) with my HD service option.

The setup takers awhile to search for what channels you get and load guide the first time! It's not near as fast as a utv.

Input 1 is the solution. The instruction manual says to use input 2. Anyway, a tech showed up unexpectedly (I had changed the appointment several days ago) and said the instruction manual is in error. You would think someone would know this when you call D* tech support. After several resets (it still had searching for satellite signal on some transponders) and several calls to D* for reactivation, the receiver finally works.

He first substituted an HR21 that worked and he was ready to remove the HR20 and leave the 21 but I made a fuss about needing the OVA stations. I have an elaborate antenna setup that pulls in from over 50 miles. The tech said the HR20 wouldn't pull in the OVA stations that half of them were bad. I said that's not what I heard. Called D* and they said they have no way of guaranteeing an HR20 as a replacement because it depends on what the warehouse has.

So we sweated over this HR20 and finally got it to work. Compared to my Sony 300, this receiver leaves a lot to be desired.

Thanks for all your help.

Glad your up and running. I needed the ota also that's why I picked one up. Also it's nice that you can record the ota channels from the guide menu.

It took a day to get use to the hr20 the only problem I've had is the IR remote during daytime? I switched to RF mode and no problems since. I knew it was the remote because the local buttons on the hd20 worked fine and a post here somewhere on the same issue.

Enjoy

I haven't found this to be the case and have had the same success with OAT stations as I did with Sony HD 200's and 300's. Most folks that I know of have received a HR21 in place of the HR20 when it was sent in.

I think when you get used to this receiver and the remote you will like it.
