I need to know more about the protocol or FORMAT between Music Choice and MSO cable provide (such as Comcast or TimeWarner).
All I know is that Music Choice provides free on-demand music reviewing.
But how about deeper technical parts?

Thanks

What is the reason for your question?
Recording to another medium?

The reason for this question is to understand whether of not a Cable STB needs to prepare it's internal functions for Music Choice.
Or can a STB treat the Music Choice service the same as other VOD services?

Thanks for your reply,
and please provide more info.:)

I don't know if this helps, but you don't need the STB at all for Music Choice. They are all available as QAM channels in the clear in my area with Charter. I do have the full package of services but the Music Channels are not scrambled.

It's the same way in my current area (western South Dakota, PrairieWave Communications), and was in my previous location as well (Time-Warner Cable, Albany NY area).

Do you have a basic knowledge of RF modulation and demodulation?

All I know is that Music Choice provides free on-demand music reviewing. Not on demand, is it? It is continuous and, generally, uninterrupted music streaming but you cannot make any "demands" of it.

Music Choice is scrambled on freaking Bright House! They even scramble digital preview/barker channels and shopping channels. From what I have read, they must be the worst cable operator of all when it comes to scrambling digital channels. BRIGHT HOUSE SUCKS!

Is there anything to do with RF modulation and/or demodulation?
If you really know something about music choice,
just tell me!

Just what is it you need to know? The information (Music Choice streams) is digitally modulated onto an r.f. carrier and distributed throughout the cable system just like any digital cable channel is. Some systems encrypt theirs while other systems don't.

Ok, thanks so much, I have some understanding about the rf modulation, and I now know Music Choice is transmitted in the same way.
But I still need to know the encoding and decoding process of Music Choice, is it the same as other MPEG programs?

It sounds like you are looking to find the file type, wav,mp3,wma etc?
Again what do you want to do with it?
Or is this just for your general knowledge?

Yes, it's MPEG-2 video at a very low frame rate with Dolby Digital 2.0 audio, similar to any SD digital cable channel (other than the extremely low frame rate).

Yes, it's for general knowledge, and more specific, I want to know more about the requirement for the receiver box to decode and display the music choice, but not to record it.

Since it's the mpeg2 encoded and dolby audio same as other Cable channels, is there any special and outstanding specifications for Music Choice to be decoded and displayed?:)

Its unencrypted on Comcast here.

Music Choice is about a 600 kbps MPEG-2 DD 2.0 stream multiplexed among other MPEG-2 channels. They can keep the bitrate so low because the video is just stationary images (highly compressed as well.. look really close up on it) and they only change images every 30 seconds or so.

About 4 MC channels fit in the space of 1 SD Digital MPEG-2 channel.

En entire 45 Channel Music Choice selection can fit on one 256QAM carrier with room to spare for 4 ~ 6 more SD Channels (depending on MSO's compression level and statistical multiplexing and/or rate shaping equipment).

QAM tuners in TV's can even tune Music Choice if it is in the clear or with a Cable Card. It follows the same protocol as regular MPEG2 SD Digital video channels. The audio is between 128 and 192 kbps.

What is MPEG-2 "DD 2.0" stream?

What is MPEG-2 "DD 2.0" stream?

MPEG-2 is the video encoding method, and DD 2.0 (Dolby Digital 2 channel audio) is the audio encoding method. That's pretty much the standard encoding method for digital cable, as well as SD ATSC programming.
