I’m considering buying a second hand Paradigm PW-2200 v.1 subwoofer (although reading the different threads concerning the PW-2200 has reconsidering…). Does anyone know if version 1 had important flaws ? What did v.2 and v.3 bring to the table ? Thanks.

V.1 - 250 watt RMS amp
V.2 - 400 watt RMS amp (I have this one)
V.3 - 500 watt RMS amp (the latest one AFAIK).
Not sure about the driver itself, i.e. if they've done any upgrading to them.
Why when reading threads here are you reconsidering? The PW series has a fine rep. If you can get one second hand at a very good price - listen to it for yourself - if you like it - buy it. If you have a lot of money to throw around, then look at new ones and pay retail. That's about all the advice I can think of to give you - good luck with whatever you decide!

Thanks Kpt_Krunch! How much of and issue is the 150 watt difference between versions 1 and 2 (listening area is approx. 260 sq ft)? I can get a v.1 for $535 plus shipping. I can also get a dealer’s v.2 demo with 3-yr warranty for 735 + taxes (CND).
Some threads were suggesting SVS, HSU, ACI and Velodyne. Some of these are not for sale locally. I have a positive prejudice for Paradigm but if I can get something better for the same price, I’m all ears!

I paid retail for my PW-2200 - but got a free sub cable (woo hoo) - can't remember the exact price but it was around $900. You should be able to get that v.2 for a better price than $735 - as that would be a price for a demo only - not a discontinued demo (what else are they going to do with it?).
It's a good sub - it's not great, but for the money - you won't find better (and before the US people chime in - it costs a lot of money - about $350 - extra to get a Hsu 3.3 up here - and they won't even ship the HO - same goes for eD and Epik - lots of money to ship - I was quoted $250 for the Tower before brokerage charges).
If you want ID - go with an SVS from Sonic Boom. Being a 'local' vendor the shipping charges are half (comparible with US shipping prices for US customers) and no brokerage or duty (if made in china - though SVS is US/Canadian made) charges.
I'm soon getting an I.D. sub myself, and will be pitting it against my little PW-2200 and will gladly post my results. I think the PW will be able to hold it's own - yes it's a bit boomy and sloppy (but how much of that is my room I don't know - I'll find out) but this sub absolutely destroys a Polk 10" sub I had (bottomed that one out easy and took it back - and that one was over $600).
Back to your original questions - the V.2's amp is almost twice as powerful as the V.1 - so I would imagine the difference would be quite noticable. The V.3 only has 20% more powerful amp - which would give it more headroom, but not sure if it would make much of a difference unless you have a larger size room.
My current room dimensions are 15 x 18 x 14' vaulted ceiling, open on one side, and my corner loaded PW does just fine. I'm buying a new sub as I'll be building a dedicated room in my basement - I'm purchasing the speakers first (and sub) as I have the money now. Once I build the room and then get the electronics, I won't have any money left over for the speakers/sub, so thought I'd get them now. If it isn't much of an improvement - I can always sell it and take a marginal loss and chalk it up to a lesson learned - I have a feeling though I won't be selling it :)

I ended up getting a used PW-2200 version 1. I had my mind set on getting a v.2 because of the 400w amp but after hearing the v.1 in someone’s HT room I concluded that this 250w beast would do the job in my less than perfect room for my less than perfect ears. I haven’t had much of a chance to tweak the settings (both on my amp and sub) but I’ve got it set so that even if I could do no better I’d still be happy with my $500 purchase (If I paid too much, please don’t tell me! ;) ). Listening to my all time favourite film Ronin as well as Live Free or Die Hard over the weekend had my living room shaking pretty hard ! I’m pleased to what it does to my music although I wish it produced a tighter bass... guess you can't have everything (at least not at that price). It's a heck of alot better than my previous 2 speaker setup!!! Cheers!

I have a 2200V1 too..for me and the price I paid for it bested everything BB and CC had to offer...The shipping for a SVS on HSU quoted was almost the price paid for the sub..!
