View Full Version : 2 Xbox 360's, Moderate NAT?
OK, I had Open NAT on one Xbox 360, I manually forwarded 3074 TCP/UDP and 88 UDP to the (manual) IP on the Xbox. Got a second Xbox 360. Of course, I can have 3074 and 88 forwarded to only 1 IP!! So on the second Xbox, I get Moderate NAT. I have UPnP turned ON, but the second Xbox didn't add anything. If I manually change the IP for the ports to the IP of the second Xbox, that one is Open, the other is Moderate!! Apparently the Xbox can't detect another Xbox and use a different port, or if it can, I don't know how to force it. I'm not excited about putting one in the DMZ, or am I needlessly worried about that?
What are you guys with more than one XBox doing to solve this? Or is Moderate NAT NOT an issue? Is it only an issue playing online, because if it is, I can live with it!! Especially on ONE.

It's only an issue online. Even then, it's not really an issue. You just can't connect with people who have Strict NATs, which is rare.
I learned something, I think. Hopefully it's useful to others searching!
My router is a Xincom DPG502, NOT on the Xbox approved list! All is wired here in my house. I HAD both Xboxes set to manual IP on the Xboxes. I set both back to Automatic and set each in the router to always get its same IP, I'm old-fashioned anal about knowing my IPs. NOW UPnP must work fine, because both have OPEN NAT. The only port forwarded in the router. at least that SHOWS, is 3074 UDP, and it's forwarded to the first Xbox I setup and that was put in by the first Xbox, UPhP apparently. Setting up the second one didn't put anything new in the router port forwarding, the old forward of 3074 is still to the first one. But, magically, both are cool as far as NAT goes. I have no Xbox ports manually forwarded in the router, 3074 TCP and 88 UDP are not forwarded, but everything is working wonderfully.
IMO, these Xboxes are worth their price as extenders alone, gaming a bonus!

But do both xbox's work if you are playing a game on line at the same time with both? You state that 3074 UDP is forwarded; if both the xbox's try to use port 3074 at the same time, I would think that it wouldn't work because I was under the asumption that you can only forward one port to one computer or xbox at a time?
Any info from anyone would be great.
Thanks.
Mindwarper 12-07-07, 01:10 PM I have 3 360's on xbl at the same time. I have a dlink router and leave everything on auto. It works fine. They are all wired. No problems whatsoever, except for occasional lag. I have 8mb down and 786 up.

I solved my issue completely by switching to a DLink DGL-4300 router, but I think you are correct, if I'd simply undone the 3074 forward and let UPnP handle it, the Xincom would have been OK, too. This was pointed out in my other thread about this, also by you! Hopefully anyone searching will find the same answer in both places!!
I'm happy with the DGL-4300 as it gives me another wireless AP in the house so I have three spread around and anyone showing up with a wireless device should be able to get on from anywhere. And my iPod touch just loves having three!!
Just posting this in hopes of helping someone else. I spent so many hours trying so many things and none worked.
Background: We have 3 Xbox 360's, 3 Xbox live accounts and 1 internet connection (DSL). The router was a Linksys WRT-300N Wireless N router. This is overall a very nice router and worked well until the 3rd Xbox 360. We almost could never get open Nat on all 3. Could get it on 2 and usually moderate on third and then during the online matches it would switch and we'd get dumped off or not be able to hear other players etc. Tried DMZ, tried - well everything I could find. Called Linksys and after a long discussion - no help - VERY disappointing with the tech support I received there. Microsoft Tech support couldn't help either, which was frustrating but not surprising since it wasn't a specific XBOX problem.
The solution was simple yet not cheap. Bought a DLink Extreme N Gaming Router #DGL-4500. Plugged it in and a little set up later all 3 online, Open Nat and have been working flawlessly for a week now without problem. Playing same games together or different games, all 3, same time, no trouble.
Hope it helps someone. Cost me about $150 but when considering the amount of time and frustration I'd spent on this issue for so long it was money well spent.

Actually $150 bucks doesn't seem to be that bad of a price. Where did you pick it up at?
Sir Ducky I got the DLink DGL-4500 at Circuit City. I used the web site to purchase but they had a discount if you picked it up at the store so it brought the price to about $150 + tax.
ports for the 360 are(from xbox support page)
88 UDP
3074-3075 BOTH
for the 2nd 360 just do
88-89 UDP
3074-3076 BOTH
this way you can have a open nat on both consoles. UPnP will work too :)
MlitantBEEMER 01-18-08, 09:03 AM I have 2 360's with 2 live accounts and recently had the same issue with NAT. My router is a Linksys WRT54G. After messing around with the port and upnp settings, I went to the Linksys website and downloaded the latest firmware. After flashing the router all is good. I have Meediacom service with 986 down and 650-750 up.
