We recently acquired a Vidikron Vision 2 and we currently have it hooked up through the Faroudja VP251 that came with it.

The source is a custom Media Center PC, but the output is S-video because every time we hook the Faroudja to the Media center, the projector tweaks out and says "VSync Out of Range" or "Sync Out of Range" depending on it's mood. Only 4 of the 5 connectors are connected because the cable running through the ceiling from the old projector only had 4 cables in it. This works fine for regular definition, but is that 5th cable necessary for the HD signal?
This projector has been hanging from our ceiling for almost a year now and it would be really nice to have it hooked up to an HD source.

On a side-note - Sometimes the top left corner of the image will start to 'sag' and move out of convergence. This is easily fixed by turning the projector off and back on, but it's sort of annoying. Any tips on that would be helpful.

Yes! the faroudja most likely has RGBHV output, the h is horizontal sync and the V is vertical sync. unless there is a way to get the faroudja to output RGBs where s is just the two sync combined. i think the marquee will accept that. not sure which Sync will carry both on the projector. Maybe if you try to take the sync cable you now have and move it to the next sync . so from H to V or vice versa. down load both manuald from online i think curts site has the marquees and maybe the faruodjas too.

Edit: i just re-read your post. try to reset the refresh rate on the PC when showing HD it might change something on the PC or the faruoudja. if the V sync is too low it wont accept it. must be higher than 32 i believe not sure I hope someone else will add to this.

The Faroudja manual is indeed on my site.

THe 251 has a 'CS' out, which is composite sync, which combines the H and V signals. That will get the signal to the projector with only 4 wires.

A couple of catches here though.

1) THe 251 is only a doubler, which is not making the most of your projector. YOu should upgrade to a scaler and do line tripling which will be better suited for the set.

2) Running Svideo out from the computer to the doubler is defeating the positives of an HTPC. You should get a breakout cable (SVGA to 5 BNC), and take the output of the computer and couple it to the 4 cables going to the projector. As Nashou66 said, you'll need a BNC T connector that will combine the H and V syncs from the computer and you'll show an incredible picture from the computer.

If you're a computer geek like some others here, you should be able to fit an HD tuner card and a BR/HD DVD drive into the computer, and you'll have a state of the art system. Get rid of the Faroudja if that's the case, you won't need it.
