Blu-ray has had several front section full page color ads in the LA Times over the past few weeks. I don't have a copy to repeat their offer, but it was effective. Today Uni and Tosh have a 4 full page color insert with the Thanksgiving ads with $3 coupons for specific titles and a $199 A3 + 7 free HD DVD's, using the word "SAVE".
What newspaper advertising have you seen in your area?

Very effective if you don't even remember what it was about. What is a newspaper again? I have never subscribed to one and have only bought 2 in my whole life.
Online is cheaper and easier :)

I just looked at both the BB and CC ads. The CC ad had a Toshiba "1080P HD Upconverting DVD " player for $99.95:(
Neither had any HDM stuff - movies or players.

I'm actually kind of surprised about the absence of HD media for sale. Other than Frys, I haven't seen any Friday specific HD or BD movie sales anywhere. (Yes, I know about Deep Discount and so forth, I'm talking about print ads).

Check the CC ad again. The nationwide ad has both HD DVD and Blu-ray players. Of course the HD DVD player is 1/2 the price.:D
I will reiterate my opinion on the HDM marketing.
We, early adopters, are essentially beta testing the gear for Tosh, Sony and the like.
I am happy to do so.
But I don't think either CEM wants J6P to get home with his shiny new A2 and Transformers, only to find that he needs some sort of firmware upgrade (latin to J6P)
By next holiday, I <imagine> that the CEMs will have all firmware/vers. worked out, to the effect that any disc will play without a hitch, with no need for firmware updates.
That will be when the MAJOR push will occur IMO, there will be ~400-500 titles available from both camps by then as well as the firmware/vers. thing worked out.
J6P wants plug and play for movies. CEMs know that early adopters will have no problem downloading new firmware, and even talking about it in forums such as this.
But I imagine many A2s will be returned to Wally World because of the lack of plug and play. Same for BD players, with the whole 1.0/1.1/Live thingy.
This will/would sour many customers on these new formats. Hence the little to no marketing push YET.

I bought an A2 a few months ago and have not done anything like a FW update to it to see how it goes (I do have and XA2 that I have applied 2 FW updates to also). So far I have had zero problems with the A2, and it has played every disc.
We will see how long this lasts, but so far the A2 seems to be a great player for they average consumer.

Good to hear. I was not bashing the A2, in fact, I don't own one. But I was worried that it would need firmware out of the box. I hope everyone's experience is like yours with the player. Better for HDMs survival.

Same here. I think the vast majority of consumers will like this player very much. A friend just bought an A20 for a really good price and is now addicted. He's not a videophile, so this is a big deal. If you have a descent sized HDTV then these players at these prices are going to make a lot of "consumers" happy. The second generation Toshibas are much more consumer friendly than the 1st generation players and I wouldn't hesitate recommending one.
Cheers,

There was a full-page color Blu-Ray ad by Panasonic in the front section of the NYT recently. It had the new Panasonic player and a picture of the Blu-Ray for Oceans 13. Which reminds me that the date I saw it was the release date for that film.
