When i originally wired my Home Theater Room many years ago i used a VGA cable as the backbone cable to the projector.

I'm getting a digital Sattelite system and a new projector. Probably Optoma HD70.

My question is can i transmit an hd signal over the VGA backbone if i have HD equipment on either end using cable adaptors.

Scenario: PVR or HD DVD Player on one end and Projector on other. Will use HDMI (or component) to VGA adaptors to plug into the backbone on both ends.

Or am i hooped and i have to add a new backbone?

To stay at the safe side no, the transmission of very high quality signal at very high frequency requires high quality wires cable for this transmission. That way you eliminate any possible EMI or noise problem into your transmission of HD.
