Hey guys, got a question...

I'm getting a 52" Sony XBR4 on Wednesday. I've heard a lot of talk about VGA cables making a huge difference in picture quality...but I've only heard that said about 720p resolution.

XBR4s are 1080p so should I just stick with an HDMI input like I think I should? Or should I go with VGA?

I've also heard if you experience any lag VGA can fix that right up...?

Thanks for any input fellas!

Go with HDMI.. HDMI is the best you can get.

Never heard of any lag with HDMI so I can't help you there.

It really, really depends on your display.Try HDMI, if it works well, then stay with it. If not, give VGA or Component a try. Each TV behaves differently depending on input. On my panel for example, there is no discernable difference between either of the 3 connections. On other's TVs, VGA is crap, or HDMI is crap. Really depends on the display.

I have a DLP and that is the reason I bought the VGA cable. Does it help? Honestly I can't tell a difference. PQ for my set and lag seem about the same with component or VGA. Since I don't have HDMI, the VGA upconverts SD-DVD's via my HD-DVD AO.

James is correct, it depends on your set. I would experiment with all the cables and see which is best for you. Just make certain you can return them, no questions asked. :)

I have a Sammy 46" LCD (last years model) and the VGA(MS) connection was absolutely horrible with my TV.

All things bieng equal in theory HDMI should be better since you have a digital display. But like the previous posters says, each TV handles every signal differently. I would personally utilize the VGA just to save the HDMI slots for devices that can only use HDMI. Usually a quick way if you can is to hook up a PC to it and go from there.

If Groove and I have the same set, I'd have to agree. I used VGA for a while, simply to upconvert standard DVD's via the add-on drive. I recently picked up an Elite with HDMI - There is a huge difference... I am convinced...

HDMI should be better for anything.

VGA is really only good now for a PC Monitor, or a TV that won't accept HDMI.

There is nothing inherently better or worse about component, VGA, or HDMI. It all comes down to what the partular display handles best, or what the output device handles best. The 360 does great with all HD connections, so unless your display doesn't handle some of them well then they will all provide the same quality.

You're going to have to find out for yourself man. Every and anyone who posts "This is better" is only speaking from THEIR experience with THEIR setup. My experience with MY Sony 32" LCD was that VGA was better, WAY better than component with my 360. With VGA you get rid of the TV's built in overscan. I'm the kind of guy that wants to see EVERYTHING that is coming out of my source. So you will see areas of the game that the developers had not intend on you seeing. Which will also show you some of the sloppy programming that goes on, lol. Since I never had a HDMI 360 i can't testify to that. I can testify that VGA is great though and you should not be disappointed. Also you can get VGA output to match most displays native resolution exactly.

Cool, thanks everyone...I knew HDMI would be the best thing to try out initially, but I wanted basically to know if I should bother with VGA if HDMI lagged. So now, if/when I get my XBR4 if it lags, I'll give VGA a shot.

Thanks again everyone...you guys...you always know how to help...it's...it's a beautiful thing man...i just...i don't know, oh man it's great!

Since you're throwing round xbr money ;) go ahead and just get the vga cable and try them all out. See what works for you.
