Well I got it all setup and working - to me it looks fine but I always see posts about don't bother on an 8 inch non-lc -
Can someone please explain what I am losing with 1080p that it would look better at 1080i?
I don't have a scaler - I just input via HDMI to the Moome box? (from my son's PS3 - side bar should I go with HD-DVD instead - $400 black friday return is looming if that is the case)
What is it about 1080p that is bad and what is good? I don't have the Mike Parker mods and doubt its worth throwing $1k at an air-coupled projector.
Please keep it simple as I don't understand and can't control fps - like I mentioned source is PS3 for 1080p versus 1080i out of HTPC or an Avel LP2 pro edition network streamer.
They all look good - just wondering why comments are not to bother going 1080p.

The image usually looks too soft and is probably sharper at 1080i. The PS3 doesn't have a 1080i setting?

It probably has 1080i - I just set up to quick defaults yesterday and hit the ACON for converging. I blieve the PS3 defaults to 1080p if it senses a capable display which the Moome box obviously provides.
I suppose I can just take the time and do a: b: comparisons but there is a lot of time between the a and the b considering need to change setup on the source and then change the projector source

a lot of time ? I have 2 recall memories on my 8500 right now. I simply push 1- ENTER and I get channel 1 = input 01 recall 01 HTPC at 960P.
If I push 2-ENTER I get channel 2 = input 02 recall 02 which is HD-DVD @ 1080i.
Just go into the Utilities menu and choose source set-up. If your running a 4:3 screen with full raster height you should eb able to resolve 1080P as long your yokes and 2-4-6 pole flare rings are adjusted properly. If this is a little beyond your skills or your using a 16:9 raster with anamorphic squeeze, the 1080i will yield much better results.

The time was more about the ps3 (a lot of menu navigation but I may be wrong and perhaps there is some more direct resolution changing option like the MyHD remote has.) So by the time I was able to choose a Marquee setup will have forgotten the screen image.
I haven't done anything with the yokes and have never adjusted the flare. I don't have the anamorphic mod - just using vertical height. (Edit - I use a 4:3 screen with full raster height but the use vertical size to get 16:9 - maybe I didn't understand your point as how else would anyone watch 1080p on a full height screen?)
Thanks for the info. I will trust it is worse at 1080p.
Hi Ralph,
I have setup 1080P on Barco and Marquee 8" machines,
and it can look just fine....1080i always looks much worse to me,
the colors aren't saturated and scan lines really detract from the
image quality. Does a 9" machine look better? sure, of course.
Would your machine look a little better at 864P or 960P? probably.
Could you try the 720P output? yes. Would the scaling look good? no.
But for your purposes, don't let these video eggspurts and naysayers
spoil your fun, just get your setup the way you want it and enjoy...!
Cheers,
Galen

Thanks Galen -
I will try it out but I imagine I won't notice much difference. I really never noted much difference watching 720 p input verus 1920x1080i or even 1440x1080i.
I don't see scan lines at my viewing distance (100" diagonal 4:3 so the 16x9 is a little smaller and I sit about 10 feet away). Those 864P or 960p must be scaler based as I have no way to output that (well maybe the pc but normally I use satellite box or MyHD card.
I guess I'm just not that critical. Maybe I'll just leave it at 1080p for bragging rights. All the people watching in my theater wouldn't know it could be better anyway!
