This is odd - when I attempt to play MPEGs using the XBox as an extender for my WMC PC, the XBox will freeze (total lock up) when trying to load the video. I have no problems with playing WMVs, photos or MP3s. Any ideas?

Yeah. Transcode your video.

Doesn't help - same result as before. Anyway, MPEG-2s are supported natively by the Xbox via MCE.

So when you change their format to, say, WMV, they still don't play?

Sorry - when you said transcode, I thought you meant Transcode 360. TC360 didn't work.

I don't see converting the videos to WMV as a viable option - it would take several hours per video. All I am trying to do is to get the XBox to play what it is supposed to be able to play.

Are you looking for a solution? If you are--transcode your videos. MPEG can mean many things. It's like saying Linux--just which flavor of Linux do you mean? The same thing goes for MPEG.

So it takes some time. Big deal. What's your computer doing overnight? Find a program that'll let you queue files for transcoding, and walk away. It's not as though you would have to do more than a few minutes of work.

5150 - your suggestion is noted. However, I am trying to have my XBox do what it is supposed to do (play MPEG-2s) ; I am not trying to accommodate it by converting everything to WMV.

Good luck with that. My apologies for thinking that you actually wanted to view your videos on the 360. Silly me.
