After my direct tv install the internet (cox cable) have been really laggy. Playing games I would freeze every 2 min. Is it possible the D* technician mixed the internet signals with the DTV signals?

This is what he did. Dish > 4 cables> connected through out the house. Cox Cable(internet) in line> my modem.

Now this is the weird thing, I connected the DTV line to the modem plug.....and I got a signal with DTV......

Would calling a Cox technician to wire a single line from the outside cable box directly to inside work? Somethings off because it wasn't like this before. I've tried with two computers so it can't be viruses/spy ware.

It sounds like your two signals are competing with each other for access to your computer and your computer does not have the bandwidth to handle both simultanously.

Are the lines diplexed toghther? If so, what do the diplexers give as the CATV/antenna input bandpass? If it says 40-860 MHZ, then it is rolling off the internet upstream single and need to be replaced with one that passes down to 10 MHz.

Oh man. Thanks for trying guys, but it looks like I will have to call the cable technician or at least a private-hire technician. This looks pretty complicated for me to attempt to fix. Thanks anyway, I'll report back.

So your internet worked fine before Sat. install? Which means cable did their job correct. Did Sat. know about your internet only connection? Get them to come back and do it proper. Comes down to seperate lines as they don't seem able to be diplexed.

Oh man I'm NEVER calling D* installation people again. The first time they ditched me, then I had to wait 2 weeks for another appointment. A month total when I ordered the service I had to wait before it was finally installed.

Okay now I managed.....(somehow) to single out the internet cable from outside>inside. I wired that directly to my cable modem. I also tested it by wiring it to my D* receiver, and did not get a signal. So that means the signal coming from that wire must be internet only.

However, I'm still lagging. I had cable tv and internet with cox. I canceled my cable and stayed with the internet. It's a 15+ MBPS connection, and it was going steady until the install.

Theres nothing wrong with my internet accept hiccups. And lots of it. Although I'm not reaching the speeds I usually do, I'm only downloading at around 400ks, as suppose to my max which was 1.2-1.3mpbs.

Don't really know what's going on. Could be a modem thing, could be a D* issue. Can't do anything until I call the technicians.

It sounds like you had some diplexing going on that was stepping on your signal, if you now have a direct line from the street to your cable modem without any diplexers in it, it's not D*'s fault anymore.

this is wrong

This is what he did. Dish > 4 cables> connected through out the house. Cox Cable(internet) in line> my modem.
this is correct

The cable internet and directv hookup NEED TO BE SEPARATE.

cable tv hookup to the cable modem and to your computer.

directv wiring connected from the sat dish to multiswitch to the directv equipment/receivers.

If after changing everything back to how it was originally installed (Dish > 4 cables> connected through out the house. Cox Cable(internet) in line> my modem) you are sill having a problem call your cable co. to zix it.

Got it???

Did the downgrade w/ Cox happen same as Sat. install? Could be possible that provisioining of your modem got FUBARed. Have you checked your speed? Some tech's don't seem to care that the customer's satisifaction is the ultimate goal.

Missed that you have looked at your speed. Here is link to Cox page with info on TS modem. Choose your model. /support.cox.com/sdcxuser/asp/cox_Indetails.asp?parFolder=18676e42-5c2a-48ed-9f3e-6bf78433e4e6 Might need to update location info but shouldn't matter for general purposes.

Your cable modem should have had a dedicated feed running to it all along. It would have made no sense for the D* installer to use or share that line.

Hey guys, thanks for the information and the help.

The first time the outside cable was hooked to a splitter, and one of the lines from the splitter went into the modem. The D* line was hooked away from the splitter, however when I connected the D* to the same line as the modem (connected to the splitter) I got perfect tv.

Now however, I removed the splitter and hooked the line from outside directly into the modem; and now D* can't get a signal(that's good). D* is working through out the house, and I the cable is working, but is definitely not worth paying 65$ a month for if it lags this much.

I'll call the technician.

P.S- I'm 110% sure I got a D* signal by connecting to my modem signal when the splitter was on. In that sense......

"Depending on how it is used, a diplexer may be called a combiner or splitter"
From wikipedia.

Hum.........sorry guys I didn't know what a diplexer originally was. Does it matter now that the outside line was on a splitter? Still lagging now that's its off the splitter though.

Yes.... But a diplexer seperates freq while a splitter/combiner doesn't care. Sat. freq is higher, cable/air are lower freq. Perhaps a modem internal page that shows signal strength/ return power/ snr? 192.168.100.1

The outside line was probably on a diplexer, not a splitter, hence the reason you could get a Directv signal on your line to the cable modem.

I FIXED IT!!!!!!!!!

Apparently the outside was connected to a splitter that had
IN----Out

dc-6 tap

The D* technician wired my internet to the Dc-6 tap wire instead of the Out wire. According to dslreports:

"These splitters have one leg labeled "tap", and the other "out". The "tap" leg is the one with a large amount of loss."

I managed to reconnect it back to the out wire and behold!!! LAG FREE. Speed isn't up to par......but at least I can continue to play games. Thanks for all our help guys, you were right about the wires outside being connected to a "diplexer"
