Unfortunately my HDMI cables do not come until Wednesday (Newegg - $23 (includes shipping) for three (7ft in length) - that is just under $8 each - great deal in my books!). I will try the component out when I get home though. I have heard that it does not process DTS, only Dolby surround sound. It does have a component out for audio, but what ends up coming over HDMI don't know yet ... xdivebombx 11-23-07, 07:11 PM Does anyone know if this thing upconverts throught component cables? My HDTV doesn't have HDMI. :( ChosenGSR 11-23-07, 07:15 PM I am not all that A/V savvy but from what I understand DTS is an alternative to the 5.1 Dolby Surround? I think I would be just fine with 5.1. I'm hoping the HDMI will carry through 5.1 :) Can't beat the price, worst comes to worst I can always return it. This should go well with my new 32" Olevia HDTV. germanshepherd 11-24-07, 10:11 PM my understanding only upconverts via HDMI... ChosenGSR 11-24-07, 11:04 PM I can't find any info on this puppy yet, I'm getting mine shipped so I won't be able to comment on it until I get it :( guitarplayer 11-25-07, 07:06 PM I picked one of these up yesterday, it in fact does carry audio through HDMI, although as far as picture quality, I can't make an accurate judgement because I've never had an upconvert player before. I CAN say that it has a better picture, although marginally on some dvds and then substantially on others, than my Harman/Kardon DVD22 hooked up through component. Can you tell if the audio that goes through HDMI is 5.1? xdivebombx 11-25-07, 09:51 PM my understanding only upconverts via HDMI... thanks for the follow up, looks like I shall have to seek elsewhere for my component up converting needs! man2344 11-26-07, 12:28 AM will this play pal???? kamspy 11-26-07, 01:25 AM Get the phillips DVC390, HDMI, multiregion, $10 more. guitarplayer 11-26-07, 10:52 AM Can you tell if the audio that goes through HDMI is 5.1? yes, I am getting 5.1 through the HDMI with it. Although, for how much more the next model up does than this one, for 10-20 bucks more, I think it might well be worth it to take a step up. ChosenGSR 11-26-07, 08:06 PM yes, I am getting 5.1 through the HDMI with it. Although, for how much more the next model up does than this one, for 10-20 bucks more, I think it might well be worth it to take a step up. Cool, I was mostly worried about the 5.1. This should be sufficient for my basic HD setup. For 30 bucks, I can throw this thing away in a year if I wanted something new. PooperScooper 11-27-07, 10:26 AM Can somebody open one up and look for the video processing chip(s)? Mediatek, Zoran, maybe something different. larry shave 11-28-07, 08:27 PM Should I be able to get digital audio out of the digital coax port on this if I am using the HDMI? Not sure if I have a bad player, bad cable, or an HDMI issue. ChosenGSR 11-28-07, 09:47 PM Should I be able to get digital audio out of the digital coax port on this if I am using the HDMI? Not sure if I have a bad player, bad cable, or an HDMI issue. I would think so, you probably have to disable the HDMI sound though. Rainier2 11-28-07, 11:45 PM Is there a link for this player? shave 11-29-07, 01:14 AM Yeah disabled the hdmi sound already no luck, will try the rca outs when I get a chance. ChosenGSR 11-29-07, 01:16 PM Yeah disabled the hdmi sound already no luck, will try the rca outs when I get a chance. That's odd, obviously it's supposed to work since it has that output. BoSoxMole 05-04-08, 11:49 PM Alright, so I have this player and I am trying to watch it on a regular tube TV. I used to have it hooked up via HDMI, but I don't anymore. Nor do I have an HDTV anywhere near me so I can reset it back. Is there anyway I can reset it so it will work via composite cables? Thanks. Huey 05-05-08, 08:30 PM I suspect it's similar to this one from Sams Club: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=845008&highlight=Magnavox which uses Panasonic chipset and scaler similar to Panny 53S stickydpaul 05-06-08, 12:47 AM Yeah disabled the hdmi sound already no luck, will try the rca outs when I get a chance. Did you try setting Digital Audio to "on" and to "bitstream" instead of "PCM"? boswd 05-06-08, 01:24 PM Is there a link for this player? Here it is. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=6486442#Item+Description Now if you're TV has a native resolution of 720P this will be fine right? HDMI Guy 05-06-08, 09:13 PM Does anyone know if this thing upconverts throught component cables? My HDTV doesn't have HDMI. :( No player will upconvert using component. You need HDMI to upconvert. overseerbrian 05-09-08, 01:13 PM No player will upconvert using component. You need HDMI to upconvert. Why is this? Is it a technical reason or a legal reason?
