Sorry if this information is commonplace but Ive done quite a few searches and cant seem to find what Im looking for. Im looking for a dvd player that can play mp3 files from a dvd disc AND can play them randomly (shuffle). I use Nero to burn mp3 audio files to a blank dvd disc and they will not play in my panny. If heard of the Oppo players having the ability to play the dvd mp3's but not randomly (shuffle). If anyone can give me a link to a list of players like this or just one if thats all there is, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks and take care.

mp3s burned to a dvd? Does it play the entire dvd randomly like one complete disc, or does the dvd have to be burned so that it has separate chapters of songs and can only play randomly within each chapter.

Yes they are on a DVD,it plays randomly if the songs are all on the root(not in folders).

that would be great but Im looking for something new or refurb'ed with a warranty and they dont make the 970 any longer. Are there any other players out there that can handle this? I would assume the 980 from oppo can do it as well, but no upconverting through component and no hack.

I also cant tell just by looking at a players specs. My player (panny) says that it plays dvd-r, dvd-a, and mp3's. but it sure as hell doesnt play mp3's on a dvd. All of the Oppos will play mp3s on DVD. All have random and shuffle modes. You can play titles within a folder, or flatten all folders so that the files appear at the same level.

To find other players that allow data files on DVD, try this search page: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers, noting the DVD-MP3 checkbox.

Do you have a requirement for upscaling component also? Those machines are fading into history; the industry wants you to use HDMI. You might try searching this forum for threads with "component" in the title.
