So Ive come over this 100usd xbox 360 which is being shipped to me on wednesday,

The only problem is that it has an overheating issue that spontaniously makes it break down and ocassionally it doesnt identify the wireless controllers.
Right now I think he has that ring of death thing since he used it as a display for his advert.

The thing is that we are using an escrow service that gives me the right to return the product in 5days; so I have 5 days to repair this thing.

Im thinking this might be due to the hardrive, but he didnt write anything about any hardrive, and if its an overheating issue I might be able to run it without the cover, exchange fans or whatever that needs to be done.

Do I need some kind of custom screwdriver?

Anyhow I was planning to use this thing for my projector, do i need some kind of custom cable? I am not gonna get a Hdmi board...Im so broke right now:D

microsoft extended the warranty on 360 to 3 years, maybe you can just have it repaired or replaced?

sometimes the lack of support is good, Iceland has no microsoft repaircenter so anyone with a faulty console gets a new one from the shop who sold it to them, no questions asked ;)

Speaking of broken 360s, anybody know if you can rape the HDDVD drive out of a busted 360 to use in a PC? I seem to recall people pulling drives and getting them to work somehow. But if it's the drives that die that's not much help... :)

The CRT forum like CRTs is dying, I think it would be wonderful to expand its scope to keep it alive by including a how do you fix anything that might be hooked up to a CRT as well as a discussion of anything you might watch on it.CRTers need to be very repair handy so this forum would be a great place to seek fix anything advice. why not if it could just be in the HT room, such as a broken pop corn popper?

So I will start a whole bunch of new threads. help me fix my ......
And having to watch the Dallas/Greenbay game only on the limited access NFL network. Relax, I get it but most people don't have it and wil have to go to a sports bar. Can you imagine.

i watch NE alot. Do you think they will go undefeated.

There is a thread in the HTPC forum with detailed and specific instructions about how to use the drive from an A1 in your computer, the 360 HD DVD drive is ONLY offered as an outboard drive, so no real need to take it out of the USB enclosure.
But, you can also buy brand new HD DVD rom drives off ebay for $99.99. They are slim notebook drives, which is nice, in a way, because you can make a "stealth" style drive bay easier, but also requires you buy an adapter to fit it into a normal 5.25" drive bay...
It will only likely be a few months more before real, cheap, HD DVD rom drives will be available. Today I noticed my local computer shop has two of the new LG BD/HD DVD rom drives in stock for $289.
Its getting a lot closer to my price range...

Just remount the heatsink with some Arctic Silver 5 while improving the mount and perhaps even lap the heatsink. You could also add some small heatsinks to hot voltage regulators and maybe a small fan somewhere. Cooling ain't exactly rocket science... I'm sure you could figure it out.

I've been working on attaching a rocket engine to my CRT. Cliffy said I don't need to, my CRT is already out of this world.

Out of this world is fine but you need the rocket engine if you want to get that 9500 out of this solar system. A wave motion engine might help(star blazer days).

I have heard of people in their 80's playing video games and not just card games or mah-jong but games like Halo.

Try Curt Palme. Look at his website. He says he can fix the XBox "ring of death" failure. To save money, have your seller ship it straight to Curt (after contacting him) and then Curt to you.

Except I live in Sweden..it would cost me as much as getting a working xbox to ship it back and forth from Canada:rolleyes:
