Hey--

This is probably a dumb idea, but has anyone put linacoustic around their ducts in the basement? I tried a couple ducts, actually seemed to work somewhat. I know that normally it's installed inside the ducts, thought that if I wanted to keep noise out of the basement that installing it around the ducts may not be a bad idea. Or is just insulating the entire soffit a better idea? Probably would be cheaper, lol. Any advice you could provide would be helpful. This is actually more for the whole basement than just home theater specific, just lowering hvac noise down there. Thanks

I think your right other insolation would be less expensive

I did some of both. I have a cold air return that crosses over the theater ceiling (between the joists). I lined it with Linacoustic to help prevent sound getting into the HVAC system.

Worth it? Who knows, but I'd rather use the $30 worth of Linacoustic rathern than worry about whether I should have.
