View Full Version : Outboard phase adjustment device?

SVS used to offer a nice outboard device that was RCA in and RCA out, where you could adjust phase and volume. (It also had a second RCA output that was fixed rather than variable phase.)

Anyone know where I could find something similar?

My subs don't have built in phase adjustment controls.

Paradigm X-20 or X-30.

Im following you around here bruce...

Im also looking for something like this, to be able to have phase adjustment on each of my DIY subs...

I have read that those x-20's and x-30's have had a tendency to introduce hum....

If you are only dealing with one sub, then adjust the distance setting in your speaker location settings.

Obviously, when dealing with multiple subs things get much more complicated.

Yes... My current 2 - SVS subs already obviously have a Phase built in, but up and coming Dual DIY's won't... I wish there was just an inexpensive easy solution here..

Thanks Kal... Thats good news but they are pretty expensive, seeing as I would need 2..

BTW, how's that review of the Paradigm S6's coming along...
Im gunna keep buggin you about them until you put up the review..;):)

This might work? It allows up to 2.5 seconds of delay, adjustable in meters, feet, and msec:

OvalNut: Is adjusting distance the same as adjusting phase? Or put differently, if I use a unit like the one you recommend and play with distance, will I get much of the same effect as if I played with phase? I'd be using the unit on a second sub to get the integration right between two subs and the mains.

Kal: Were the Paradigm units fairly transparent? (My subs run from 90hz on down, and it's a pretty high resolution system. That being said, I don't believe I need the same "transparency" on subs as I do on the midrange on up.) Is there any real sonic difference vs. something like the Velodyne SMS (other than the PEQ, and mic, which I don't need.)

Thanks.

Though phase is technically frequency dependent, a time delay will substantially do the same thing.

I'd be more worried about whether the unit introduces any untoward distortion, rolloff, clipping, etc... But, it's cheap and may well suit the bill fine.

Thanks.Dunno. Had the X-30 with the Servo-15 for quite a while but have not used it for years now and there were too many devices in between to recall with any certainty. It was replaced by an Outlaw ICBM, then the SMS-1, then the Audyssey SEQ and I think there were a few others.

Just for completeness, the other affordable delay line I'm aware of is the Behringer DSP2024P
http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHDSP2024P
which is the one Hsu used in their Vegas display to time the rear MBM.
Look at both .pdf manuals on Behringer's site and decide what options, connections, etc. best fit your needs.
