I was able to sneak the PC-Ultra past the wife a few years ago, but she still complains about how ugly it is. I'm itching to upgrade to the new generation and would like to go with the PB13 in Piano Gloss Black to match the Ascend Sierra-1's that are on the way. However, I'm not sure about the placement.
Here's my setup:

And a closer shot of the sub placement:

The front to back depth of the PB13 is 27". It won't fit facing forward, but will if facing to the right (sub pointing toward speaker & TV stand). In that position, it would be about 2" from the left edge of the speaker stand base.
Ideally it would face forward, but then it would stick out so far it wouldn't get past the wife. Also a new PC-Ultra and it's higher height won't either. Will I have problems with the sub pointing to the right so close to the speaker stand?

could you just replace with a PC13?? maybe she won't notice
The PC13 Ultra is about a foot taller than the old Ultra. I think he is looking for something less conspicuous.
If the edge of the Ultras 13 is 2" from the base of the stand, I think you'll be ok. It looks like the pillar on the stand is another 2" or 3" from the edge of the base, so that gives you a total of 4" to 5". It might work. Besides, it's just a speaker stand, not a wall.
Are you sure your wife won't go for it facing forward? It would still look better than the big water heater.
Is there room on the right side of the room? Maybe look at the rosenut veneer as it may please your wife. Ask SVS to send a color chip and see how it matched up to the equipment cabinet.
IIRC, you need at least as much clearance between the ports and the closest obstacle as the width of the port (3.5") to allow the sound to connect to the room. I wouldn't count the speaker stand as an obstacle, but the side of the equipment cabinet is a different issue.
If you or your wife can sew, have her pick out some nice, decor friendly fabric and make a replacement sock to cover or replace the black sock on the sub. Then refinish the base plate and the top grill in gloss black or a matching color. SVS chose a black sock so it disappears in a dark room. Other than that, there is no advantage to the sock material.
Golly,
Nice looking hardwood floors.

Thanks for all the input everyone. The scale of these pictures is way off. There is much more room in real life than it appears. The space from the left inside corner to the left side of the media center is 43 inches. This leaves 15-16 inches of space in front of the sub which should be more than enough. I have an email into SVS to get their opinion.
Also, here's why I don't want the sub facing forward.

Jim. Thanks for the compliment! The room is sparse in the pictures because we just refinished the floors. They went from softwood fir to hardwood Brazilian cherry.
Here's the before.

"Does the SVS PB13 Ultra need a lot of room in front of the ports?"
Nope - here is an example from www.kringlyd.no (http://www.kringlyd.no):

uhm... That looks like about 6-8 feet of room in front of the ports. I'd consider that a lot wouldn't you?

That is a great looking setup, and that sub looks really nice over there. Man, I will never get chicks.
