I'm having DTV installed tomorrow. I am getting the high def receiver put in my living room for my LCD HDTV. I am getting a standard def receiver put in my basement family room for my standard def tube TV.

Please bear with me. I have a few questions:

#1 Do I have a choice as to what model/brand of high def receiver I will be receiving? I noticed according to their website that there are quite a few different ones available. I don't need a DVR.

#2 Do I want dual tunners for both receivers because we also have 3 bedrooms with older televisions in them which rarely get used. I really don't want to pay for 4 additional receivers($5/month per extra receiver)

#3 I own a Series 2 TIVO(dual tuner). Will the DTV guy hook that up to my new DTV receiver? If he does, will he charge me $$$ since it's beyond what's included in the free setup?

#3 Once TIVO is hooked up, will I be able to watch one channel while TIVO is recording another? I am confused to the whole satellite vs. cable tuner capabilites & differences. I have been reading the forums here.

#4 If I chose to switch to the high def DVR receiver, is there a monthly charge for using it like I pay for my TIVO?

#5 Is the DVR in the high def receiver a TIVO DVR? I have 2 years prepaid on my Series 2 TIVO. Could I transfer that account to the DVR inside the high def DVR receiver?

Are you getting Dish or Directv? You list Dish in the subject, DTV which means digital TV in your first line then link to Directv's site.

I'm assuming D* since you listed their site.

1) No, you get whatever the installer has. There are only two current models available, the H20 and H21. The link you listed is to their manual section for all the past receivers available.

2) Directv doesn't offer any dual tuner models other then their DVR's and they aren't designed to output two different feeds. You can feed more then one TV off a receiver, you'll be watching the same channel on all the TV's though.

3) You'll have to ask the installer but I'd be surprised if they did, there is a bit of work involved to get a stand alone Tivo to work with a D* receiver. You will need to feed it from the composite or s-video out on your D* receiver and attach it to another input on your TV, you will then need to set up the remote IT blaster so the Tivo can change the D* receiver's channels and you'll need to configured the Tivo to work with your D* service. You won't be able to record any HD either and will probably not touch the Tivo unless you want to flip over to it to watch something you recorded since it can't pass HD through. I know cause I did the same thing except I had a second SD receiver hooked up just for the Tivo til the HD DVR came down to an affordable price then I scrapped the Tivo and extra receiver.

3a) No, you'll be watching whatever the Tivo is recording.

4) D* changes a $5.99 a month DVR fee regardless of how many DVR's you have.

5) No
