I need to get a new sub that will be matched with Axiom m60's and the VP100. Are the Axiom subs any good; anyone have any experience with them? The room I will be putting this in is just under 3000 cubic feet. I really don't know how much to spend on a decent sub but I was hoping somewhere around $500, give or take. Is that price point unreasonable to expect a good sub? I will be listening to quite a bit of music through these as well as it will be for my HT.

As for placement of the sub, are they normally placed near the TV or can they be placed behind the sitting area? What are the differences with both music and movies.

TIA

Axiom makes excellent subs that cost a little more than the BLACK subs on the market, but they are prettier than most. High WAF factors. The closest sub made by Axiom is the EP175 which is a 10" 175 watt beauty @ $560.

3000 cu. ft. can be energized with a 10" subwoofer, but a larger 12" or even 15" would provide more slam in your moderatly large room. For music a 10" sub in your large room would sound great IMHO but slightly lacking for HT. My "slightly lacking" might be just right or over powering to your ears.

If the 12" Axiom EP350 @ $758 is too costly then the various $500 12" BLACK subs from SVS, Hsu, Outlaw, ED or others would do nicely.

HT subs are usually placed in one of the front corners of the room to maximize low frequency reproduction. Placing the sub closer to the listener increases the mid-bass slam while reducing the extreme low frequencies heard by the seated listener.

One current trend is to place a large low frequency producing sub in the corner and a smaller sub behind the listener to provide SLAM. Best of both worlds.

Bottom line...............Axiom makes great subs if you can afford their beauty.

Thanks for the info sterankoman. If I were to get 2 subs, is it possible to use both with a single Denon 3808? What's your opinion of having to "lesser" subs rather than one higher end sub? For example, the EP350 together with the EP125 versus having only the EP500? I notice that only the higher end subs have DSP. Is it worth moving up to a more expensive sub for this feature?

Sorry for the late reply.

One can usually run two subs from a single RCA subwoofer jack if the signal voltage is high enough (it usually is, enough to be divided twice).

I agree with the smart boys here in the forum that says multiple subs should be the same model. My experience is very new in this area. I have two different subs running at the same time from a single source and I don't care for the results so far. But I'm just beginning to experiment with them. I have concluded that If one does run two different subs, they should be as close to each other as possible.

"DSP" do you mean the circuitry that changes to subwoofer output at the touch of a button for day/night operation. I'm a "straight wire" kinda guy who likes his music without the fancy stadium/church/jazz club sound profiles. With all the possible sound modifications what does the original sound supposed to sound like?

Bottom line: Buy the biggest, best sub you can over two lessor subs.
